Frantz named top columnist fourth year in a row; wins four SPJ awards

JJHuddle Managing Editor Eric Frantz earned four firsts at the recent Society of Professional Journalists Cincinnati Pro Chapter HOF and Awards banquet in downtown Cincinnati. For the fourth year in a row Frantz was recognized as the “Best Sports Columnist.” He also won for "Best Overall Sports Coverage", "Best Sports Blog" and "Best Deadline Story."


JJHuddle Managing Editor Eric Frantz earned four firsts recently at the Society of Professional Journalists Cincinnati Pro Chapter HOF and Awards banquet in downtown Cincinnati.

For the fourth year in a row Frantz was recognized by the Cincinnati SPJ as the “Best Sports Columnist” for work that appeared in 2011.

Said the judges: "(You) don’t need to read between lines to get Frantz’s opinion.”

Frantz also finished first in “Overall Sports Coverage" for the second year in a row. The piece that won it for him was his series: "Public v. Private: OHSAA Competitive Balance Proposal.”

Frantz was a finalist in two other categories.

The Cincinnati SPJ competition includes media in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana.
