There was a full moon last Friday. That’s the only explanation for the following postseason performances….
Best First Half Caleb Siefring, Coldwater: Junior WR/DB put on a show in a 43-0 win over Versailles in the D-V Region 20 semifinals. Siefring caught four passes for 175 yards and four TDs and had two interceptions on defense, including one he returned for a TD. The best part is he did all that in the first half. Siefring’s TD receptions (all in the first quarter) covered 75, 66, 11 and 23 yards. His interception return for a TD in the second quarter covered 47 yards.
Best Second Half Justin O’Rourke and Matt Eckhardt, Avon: With their team trailing 14-7 at halftime, the duo propelled the Eagles to a 49-28 victory by hooking up for five second-half TD passes. Eckhardt finished the game 16-of-26 for 237 yards and six TDs, while Eckhardt, who had zero catches at halftime, finished with seven for 207 yards and five TDs.
MILK AND JJHUDDLE OHIO OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Corry Benson, Marion-Franklin: Junior QB had a hand in every point his team scored in a 44-17 win over Big Walnut in the D-II Region 7 semifinals. Benson completed 12-of-16 passes for 140 yards and four TDs and ran for 109 yards and two more TDs on 11 carries. He also ran for two 2-point conversions and threw for two more.

WEEK Justin Kresevic, Solon: DB had three interceptions, including one he took to the house for a TD, in a 42-40 loss to Mentor in the D-I Region 1 semifinals. As a team, Solon forced seven turnovers.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK Geramie Dart, Clinton Massie: Senior K went 3-for-3 on field goals (31, 40 and 32 yards) and booted a PAT in a 24-10 win over Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy in a D-IV Region 16 semifinal. Dart’s 10 points move him into sixth place all-time in Ohio for kick scoring with 227 points. His PAT was also the 200th of his career, making him just the third kicker in state history to reach that plateau.
Reggie McAdams, Elida: Senior QB completed 22-of-42 passes for 301 yards and a TD and ran for 47 yards and another TD in a 24-21 win over Columbus DeSales in a D-III Region 20 semifinal.
Nick Blower, Columbiana Crestview: Junior RB set a school record with 324 yards (and two TDs) on 22 carries in a 41-20 win over Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas in the D-V Region 17 semifinals.
Brock Jones, Walsh Jesuit: Senior RB ran for 225 yards and two TDs in a 49-14 win over Kent Roosevelt in the D-II Region 5 semifinals.
Reid Masters, Marion Pleasant: RB ran for 306 yards and three TDs in a 49-42 OT loss to West Jefferson n a D-V Region 20 semifinal.
Maty Mauk, Kenton: Senior QB accounted for 448 total yards (209 rushing and 139 passing) in a 32-22 win over Genoa in the D-IV Region 14 semifinals. Mauk ran for three TDs and threw for another.
Luke Keller, Lucasville Valley: RB ran for 181 yards and three TDs on 23 carries and caught a pass for a 62-yard TD in a 42-12 win over Ashland Crestview in the D-V Region 19 semifinals.
Derick Swinderman, Dover: Senior QB threw for 421 yards and five TDs in a 41-35 win over Minerva in the D-III Region 11 semifinals.
Doug Lewis, Walsh Jesuit: Junior WR helped the Warriors pull away from Kent Roosevelt in a 49-14 win in the D-II Region 5 semifinals. Lewis scored two TDs 21 seconds apart in the third quarter. After catching a TD pass and following a safety, Lewis returned the ensuing kickoff 70 yards to increase a 7-point lead (21-14) to 23 (37-14) in less than half a minute.
Adam Bertke and Dylan Thobe, Maron Local: Duo cam up big in 41-14 win over Ada in the D-VI Region 24 semifinals. Bertke completed 16-of-25 passes for 313 yards and four TDs, each of which went to Thobe (nine catches, 166 yards).
Michael McCray, Trotwood-Madison: Junior LB had two second-half interceptions, including one he returned 75 yards for a TD in a 27-6 win over Wapakoneta in a D-II Region 8 semifinal. McCray is Trotwood’s leading tackler (62) and has a team-high four interceptions (two returned for TDs).
Jack Snowball and Bret Baughman, Wadsworth: Duo combined to lead the Grizzlies to a 42-21 in over Hudson in the D-I Region 2 semifinals. Snowball carried the ball 40 times for 240 yards, while Baughman scored four TDs and ran for 75 yards on 15 carries. Ahmad Eggleston, Girard: RB carried the ball 12 times for 230 yards and three TDs in a 56-14 win over Black River in the D-IV Region 13 semifinals.
Jacob Bresciani, Coshocton: Senior RB carried the ball 27 times for 215 yards and three TDs in a 47-21 win over St. Clairsville in the D-IV Region 15 semifinals.
Ross Franklin, Johnstown-Monroe: Senior RB ran for 251 yards and three TDs on 23 carries in a 34-7 win over Ironton in the D-IV Region 15 semifinals.
Adam Wallace, Norwayne: Senior QB had a hand in all five TDs in the Bobcats 34-19 win over Orrville in the D-IV Region 13 semifinals. Wallace ran for two TDs and threw for three more.
Offf-ense: Elida ate up the final 6:59 of the fourth quarter in its 24-21 win over Columbus DeSales in the D-V Region 20 semifinals. The drive culminated with the game-winning 27-yard field goal as time expired…Kings RB Jamire Westbrook ran 86 yards for a TD on the game’s first play in a 24-0 win over Turpin in the D-II Region 8 semifinals. Westbrook ended the game with 187 yards and two TDs on 28 carries…Kirtland scored 35 first quarter points en route to a 53-7 win over Sugarcreek Garaway in a D-V Region 17 semifinal…Coshocton ran for 396 yards and five TDs on 58 carries in a 47-21 win over St. Clairsville in a D-IV Region 15 semifinal.
Defff-ense: Coldwater had six interceptions and held Versailles to just 124 total yards in a 43-0 win in D-V Region 20…Aurora had eight sacks in a 34-14 win over Tallmadge in the D-II Region 5 semifinals…Akron SVSM forced four second half turnovers in a 31-14 win over Mentor Lake Catholic in the D-III Region 9 semifinals…St. Edward had nine sacks in a 20-17 loss to Cleveland St. Ignatius in the D-I Region 1 semifinals.
Noteworthy: What you need to know about what happened statewide…
*Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary advanced to its first regional final in nine years with a 31-14 win over Mentor Lake Catholic in the D-III Region 9 semifinals.
* Kenton head coach Mike Mauk won his 200th game with a 32-22 victory over Genoa in the D-IV Region 14 semifinals. Mauk is 200-116 at Kenton, including 104-85 in Western Buckeye League games. He’s led the Wildcats to 19 straight winning seasons and eight WBL titles.
* Mentor won its D-I region 1 semifinal 42-40 over Solon despite turning the ball over seven times and nearly squandering a 35-7 lead. Mentor junior QB Mitch Trubisky completed 16-of-33 passes for 279 yards and four TDs, but he threw five picks. He also ran 27 times for 121 yards and two TDs, but fumbled once.
* Cleveland St. Ignatius and Lakewood St. Edward played their D-I Region 1 semifinal in front of a Brunswick stadium record crowd – estimated at over 9,500. Ignatius won 20-17 on kicker Tim Shenk’s 32-yard field goal as time expired. St. Edward blew a 17-3 lead with three minutes left in the third quarter.
* Columbiana Crestview reached its first regional final in history by running for 436 yards on 46 carries in a 41-20 win over Louisville St. Thomas Aquinas in the D-V Region 17 semifinals.
* Cincinnati St. Xavier won the latest chapter in its rivalry with Colerain, knocking the Cardinals out of the postseason with a 28-15 win in the D-I Region 4 semifinals. Senior QB Griffin Dolle led the way, completing 9-of-10 passes for 117 yards and three TDs. St. X is now 7-2 against Colerain since 2005 and 4-1 in the playoffs over that span.
