5. Emily Pendleton, Elmore Woodmore, Track & Field, 2003-2007: Track is Ohio’s longest contested championship, with the boys tournament having been held for over 100 years (102 to be exact). Although the girls championships (35 years old) aren’t quite as gray, in 2007 Pendleton did something that no on else in track history – regardless of gender – has ever done. She won a field event four times. Dominating in the field like no one before her, Pendleton won four straight discus crowns (in D-III). She also holds the all-time state record (regardless of division) with a heave of 183-3 her senior year. That mark is the fourth best in U.S. history. Pendleton was also a two-time Nike National Champion. Pendleton’s younger sister Erin won the last two state titles in the event making it six straight years the family has finished first. Both are now at Michigan where Emily was the Big Ten discus champion and Freshman of the Year in 2008. She defended her conference discus title in 2009. Did we mention that 183-3 heave her senior year would have won the Big Ten that season too?
Pendleton was state runner-up in the shot put as a senior as well and fourth as a junior.
