7. Jon Diebler, Upper Sandusky, Basketball, 2003-07: The current Buckeye doesn’t rank second in Ohio State history for 3s made by coincidence. He’s hit plenty in his past. Diebler is Ohio’s all-time leading scorer in boys basketball (3,208 points), surpassing the previous record of 2,958 set by former Buckeye Jay Burson against Norwalk in a 90-64 win in February 2007. During his senior season Diebler averaged 41.2 points, 12.3 rebounds and six assists per game.
Diebler also set an Ohio High School state record for most free throws in a game with 27 out of 28 attempts against Tiffin Columbian in January 2006. He also scored 77 points in the game, which stands as the most points scored by an Ohio player in 37 years.
Playing under his father, Keith Diebler, Jon was named Mr. Basketball in 2007 and led the Rams to a state runner-up finish (lost to Dayton Dunbar). His 48 points in the championship game is the third highest in history in the state tournament and trails only Ohio State greats Jerry Lucas (53, 1956) and Clark Kellogg (51, 1979).
As a sophomore, Diebler helped lead Upper Sandusky to a D-II state championship with a 32-point, 14-rebound performance in the title game. He had 29 and nine in a semifinal win over Dunbar.
Diebler was also a three-time letterwinner in cross country.
