10. Tyrell Sutton, Akron Hoban, Football, 2001-2005: The 2004 Mr. Football winner put together one of the most impressive runs – pun intended – in the history of Ohio High School football. Sutton capped his career as the state’s all-time leading rusher with 9,426 yards (only back ever to eclipse 9,000 yards; ranks sixth nationally) and set another state record with 38 straight games over 100 yards. Second place is 27. Sutton’s 3,232 yards in 2004 also ranks fourth for a single season and his 505 yards in a game against Youngstown Ursuline is third for a single game. He is No. 2 all-time in rushing TDs (112) and No. 3 all-time in total TDs (117). Sutton ended his career ranked among the Top 20 in several other state record categories as well, including: points in a career (No. 5 with 702) and points in a game (No. 12 with 48). He also owns the state record (tied with three others) with eight rushing TDs in a game.
After a standout career at Northwestern, where he finished as the Wildcats second all-time leading rusher, Sutton is now a member of the NFL’s Carolina Panthers.
