Today's entry is the only person in state history to win four state tennis titles...
13. Matt Allare, Kings Mills Kings, Tennis, 2003-07: No tennis player in state history has as complete a resume as Allare, now an Ohio State junior. During his career, Allare became the only player ever to claim four state titles. As a freshman and sophomore (2004-05), Allare won doubles titles. As a junior and senior (2006-07), he added singles titles. In 2007 Allare was also named the National High School Coaches Association (NHSCA) boy's tennis player of the year after posting a 27-0 record. He was 21-2 as a junior.
On a side note, Allare's brother John, who plays for Michigan State, won the 2005 Ohio singles title. The brothers are the first brothers to win back-to-back state titles in Ohio state tournament history.
In the United States Tennis Association rankings, Allare reached the No. 14 position nationally in singles (boys 18) and No. 1 in doubles (boys 18) during his high school days. He won the Winter and Spring USTA Super National doubles tournaments and was a two-time national open finalist in doubles (boys 18) with current Buckeye teammate and fellow Ohio H.S. standout Justin Kronauge (Centerville).
