23. Erik Kynard, Toledo Rogers, Track & Field, 2005-2009: No one has gone higher than Kynard in Ohio history. Last year as a senior, Kynard broke the state record in the high jump with a huge leap of 7’-2 ¾” at Mansfield’s Mehock Relays. He had earlier soared 7"-4 ½' – the fourth best leap ever in the U.S. – on March 28 at the Huron Relays (Eastern Michigan University). Kynard finished the season the sixth ranked U.S. high jumper regardless of age. In June of last year, Kynard defended his D-I state title with a leap of 7’-1” (fourth best all-time at the state meet). A two-time NIKE Indoor Nationals champion, Kynard finished second at the Pan American Junior Championships in Trinidad in August. He’s currently enrolled at Kansas State.
