Today we continue the countdown of JJHuddle's “Top 50 Ohio High School Athletes of the Decade” for 1999-2009. Every Monday through Friday from now until March 26, a new athlete will be released.

Today's entry is currently ranked as the nation's top boys basketball player. He's also a member of the nation's No. 1 team.

47. Jared Sullinger, Columbus Northland, 2006-2010: The 2009 Ohio Mr. Basketball winner led Northland to its first state title last year by hitting a pair of free throws in the closing seconds. Ranked as the No. 1 power forward in the country as a senior this season, Sullinger could/should win his second Mr. Basketball award. The Vikings, ranked No. 1/2 in the country, could/should also win their second straight D-I state title and possibly a national championship.

Thanks in part to Sullinger’s dominance, the Vikings have navigated a beefed up schedule that’s included nationally televised games against nationally ranked teams (then-No. 1) Findlay Prep (NV) and (then-No. 9) Oak Hill Academy (VA) unscathed. Northland is currently ranked No. 1 in the country by USA Today.  In the two televised games, Sullinger has been at his best (37 points and 34 rebounds combined).

An Ohio State recruit and part of the Buckeyes No. 1 ranked  recruiting class, Sullinger should also appear in March’s McDonald’s All-American game at the Schottenstein Center.
