“We
have a young team that is very athletic,” said coach Bob Fresch,
starting his sixth year at the school. “It will be hard to predict the
outcome. Like everyone else, we need to stay healthy and have a few
breaks. We will rely on our quickness because we won’t be very big.”
Lowe leads the way at linebacker.
Giresi
(5-11, 190) is an impact player at running back and defensive back.
Grant Fresch (6-1, 190) is valuable at wide receiver, defensive back
and as the long snapper. Harper boasts above average speed at wide
receiver and cornerback.
“We are small and quick,” Coach Fresch
said. “Our opponents will be very good and big. We need to be in great
condition, use our quickness and minimize mistakes and injuries. Doing
all of these things will determine the success of our season.”
The
schedule could be a meat grinder, beginning with a match-up at
defending Division III state champion Sunbury Big Walnut. The hits keep
coming with a game at New Albany and a home game with Division I state
final four participant Dublin Coffman. The OCC schedule includes games
against fellow Westerville schools South and North.
“We have
several key games,” Fresch said. “We need to open up and win game one
at Big Walnut. Then, we need to win the home opener against Dublin
Coffman. We need to focus on winning the Westerville games. And we need
to concentrate on our league games.
“Our goal is to win a league
championship and get to the playoffs. We are looking for the school’s
second OCC title in three years. We are very young and we are very
green and will have to work hard for a title.”
