Several Shelby County area talents have committed to extend their athletic careers
at the college level. And the one player everybody has been waiting to hear from,
has made his decision. Anna senior Wes Hunsucker will attend St. Francis University
in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he will play both football and baseball.
Another multiple-sport standout won't make his decision until late August. Sidney
junior Zach Yinger has recieved plenty of attention from college golf and basketball
coaches. Detroit University and Penn State want Yinger for basketball, but he has
decided to concentrate on golf.
Several Big 10 golf coaches are happy with his decision, including Indiana,
Illinois, Purdue, and Ohio State. OSU mens golf coach Donnie Darr has been wining
and dining Yinger. The DI State Runner-Up has visited OSU twice. He saw the OSU-New
Mexico State football game and recently watched the OSU-Minnesota basketball game.
In addition, coach Darr traveled to Trotwood to watch Yinger play basketball last
month. Thad Motta should have been there. Yinger poured in 25 points in a losing
effort to the Rams.
Kent State is also on Yinger's short list. Zach said that they have a nice indoor
golf facility. PGA Tour player Ben Curtis is from Kent State. Coach Darr played his
college golf at Kent State and wants to build the program back to prominance.
Here's a look at the area standouts and where they have landed. Know someone not on
the list...Let us know.
