Push Play: S-W District to have sports

Push play.

Fight songs will be playing and the gyms will be warm for basketball and other sports this winter after voters in the South-Western City School District narrowly approved a 7.4-mill levy by 450 votes on Tuesday. The district, which hired more than 40 middle and high school sports coaches on Wednesday to fill coaching voids, will go to a pay-to-play system with the levy passage. The district, comprised of Grove City, Central Crossing, Franklin Heights and Westland high schools, had been without sports since an August attempt to pass a levy went down, either forcing athletes to transfer to neighboring schools like London or Westfall or to stay on board in their South-Western School without extra-curricular activities.
