Zanesville headed to the East Central Ohio League

The East Central Ohio League has finally accepted an eighth member and Zanesville will be the perfect fit. For as long as I've been in Eastern Ohio I have wanted the Blue Devils in the league but nothing ever took place. Recently the ECOL Principals did the right thing and voted Zanesville into the league and it now includes Dover, New Philadelphia, Claymont, River View, Coshocton, Cambridge and Meadowbrook.

A story in the New Philadelphia Times-Reporter stated that the football season will be divided into two divisions. The Black Division will feature Dover, New Philadelphia, Cambridge and Zanesville. The White Division will feature Claymont, Meadowbrook, River View and Coshocton. One cross-over game will be required.

ECOL commissioner John Neighbor said that two more spots are available to expand the league to 10 teams.

The league has been uneven since Indian Valley left for the Principals' Athletic Conference two years ago. River View was the newest addition in 2005.
