& JJHuddle Division II Power Poll: Week 3
1. Trotwood-Madison (2-0)
The Rams beat their second straight Dayton City League team with a 41-8 decision over Dunbar. Sophomore DL Verdonte Wilkinson (nephew of former Dunbar, Ohio State and NFL DL Dan “Big Daddy” Wilkinson) returned an interception for a TD and had a safety. This week the Rams travel to Beavercreek (2-0).
2. Kings (2-0)
The Knights beat host Milford 41-7. Senior RB Jamire Westbrook carried the ball 12 times for 111 yards and three TDs. Senior QB Jensen Gebhardt completed 7-of-11 passes for 136 yards and two TDs. This week Kings entertains Harrison (0-2) in its home opener.
3. Maple Heights (2-0)
The Mustangs beat host Columbus Northland 37-6. QB Jeremy Graves scored two TDs. This week Maple Heights travels to Chardon (1-1).
4. Howland (2-0)
The Tigers racked up over 300 yards of offense by halftime en route to a 40-7 win over Cortland Lakeview. Junior RB De’Veon Smith paved the way with 196 yards rushing and two TDs. Up next? A trip to Warren Harding (1-1).
5. Marion-Franklin (2-0)
The Red Devils held on for their second straight win, beating Dublin Scioto 40-35 after holding a 24-point fourth quarter lead. Junior QB Corry Benson threw for 331 yards and three TDs and ran for 105 yards and another score. This week a tough test at Canal Winchester (2-0) awaits.
6. Avon (2-0)
The Eagles beat host Wellington 35-14. Ahead 28-7 at the half, Avon watched as Wellington went on a 20-play, 81-yard scoring drive that took 11:04 off the clock to pull within 28-14 in the fourth. Avon sophomore Antonio Orr squashed any Wellington momentum however by returning the ensuing kickoff 77 yards for a TD. A stiff test looms with a visit from Lorain (2-0).
7. Zanesville (2-0)
The Blue Devils won the turnover battle (3-0) en route to a 17-12 win over host Licking Valley. Sophomore J.T. McFarland came up big with a key kickoff return (that set up a field goal) and a fourth quarter interception. A visit from Hamilton Ross (2-0) is on the docket this week.
8. Winton Woods (1-0)
The Warriors lost 38-37 to Lakota East in triple OT. Seniors Aaron Kemper (RB) and Gary Underwood (QB) combined for 212 yards and four TDs rushing. Things don’t get any easier this week with a trip to Middletown (2-0) looming.
9. Fremont Ross (2-0)
The Little Giants enter the Power Poll after a convincing 50-21 win over Brecksville-Brodwview Heights. Fremont knocked Broadview Heights QB Tom Tupa, Jr., out of the game and scored 30 points in the first quarter. This week the Little Giants host Toledo Rogers (0-2).
10. Walsh Jesuit (1-1)
The Warriors dropped a 48-46 decision to Akron SVSM. Down 28-3 in the second quarter, Walsh rallied behind QB Nick Wargo who fired five TD passes. This week the Warriors host Columbus Watterson (1-1).
DROPPED OUT: No. 9 Tallmadge (lost 23-20 to Akron Ellet)
