& JJHuddle Division I Power Poll: Week 4
1. Lakewood St. Edward (3-0)
The Eagles ran their winning streak to 18 straight with a 34-7 win over Youngstown Mooney. Junior RB Dwayne Anderson ran for 147yards and three TDs. Junior KR Anthony Young returned the opening kickoff 93 yards for a TD. This week the Eagles host No. 10 Elder (2-1).
2. Cincinnati St. Xavier (3-0)
The Bombers scored an emotional victory over Colerain and snapped the Cardinals 61-game home win streak with a 17-14 decision. St. Xavier’s Nick Roemer kicked a 21-yard field goal with 3:57 left for the win. This week the Bombers face another stiff test with a visit from Louisville (KY) Trinity (3-0), which just beat Elder 56-7, looming.
3. Cincinnati Moeller (3-0)
The Crusaders defense has been lights out in the first three weeks, allowing just 19 points. The latest victim is Northmont, which fell 63-12. Moeller hosts Louisville (KY) St. Xavier (1-2) this week.
4. Austintown-Fitch (3-0)
The Falcons had their way with Canadian import St. Mary’s Secondary School, winning 49-0. A trip to Canton McKinley (2-1) awaits.
5. Colerain (2-1)
The Cardinals saw their 61-game home win streak (which dates back to 1999) snapped in a 17-14 loss to St. Xavier. Colerain missed a potential 45-yard game-tieing field goal in the closing seconds. The Cardinals host Mason (2-1) this week.
6. Mentor (3-0)
The Cardinals racked up a school record 608 yards of offense in a 38-24 win over then No. 9 St. Ignatius. Mentor was led by junior QB Mitch Trubisky who set a school record for passing yards in a game (469) and accounted for 553 yards of offense. Trubisky completed 28-of-44 passes and tossed three TDs and ran for 84 yards and two TDs. He also threw four interceptions. This week Mentor travels to Mayfield (1-2).
7. Middletown (3-0)
The Middies racked up another big win with a 21-19 victory over Winton Woods. Senior E.J. Junior scored two TDs, including one on a return of a punt he blocked. This week Middletown travels to Oak Hills (2-0).
8. Whitmer (3-0)
The Panthers beat their second straight Canadian school, this time dispatching Brantford Collegiate 63-0. Whitmer led 56-0 at the half. Senior RB Jody Webb had 79 yards and three TDs on six carries. This week the Panthers travel to Toledo St. Francis (1-2).
9. Hilliard Davidson (2-0)
After a bye week the Wildcats returned to action and beat Columbus Walnut Ridge 43-7. Davidson was led by senior RB Alex Mickley who ran for 90 yards and three TDs on 11 carries (all in the first half).
10. Cincinnati Elder (2-1)
The Panthers suffered their worst loss ever at home and their worst loss overall since 1960 with a 56-7 beatdown from Louisville (KY) Trinity. Turn the page. This week Elder travels to St. Edward (3-0).
DROPPED OUT: No. 9. St. Ignatius (lost 38-24 to Mentor)
