Last Friday was a good day to be a fan of Hilliard high school football. Doesn’t matter if you root for Davidson, Darby or Bradley, everyone west of Columbus was happy last week.
Through five weeks Davidson, Darby and Bradley are a combined 13-2. Davidson and Darby are undefeated.
Those two and their new neighbor flexed their muscles Friday.
Davidson, the defending D-I state champion, allowed Thomas Worthington just 21 yards of total offense in a 52-0 win. The Wildcats outgained the Cardinals 446-21.
Darby beat Central Crossing 75-7. The Panthers forced seven turnovers and outgained the Comets 560-80 in total yards.
Bradley beat Franklin Heights 42-18.
Combined, Davidson, Darby and Bradley outscored their foes 122-13 in the first half of their games. OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Craig Wallace, Dayton Ponitz: Senior QB accounted for nine TDs and 62 of his team’s 64 points in a 64-34 win over Dayton Meadowdale. Wallace ran for five TDs and threw for four more. He also threw for three 2-point conversions and ran for another.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK Zack Shaw, Coshocton: Senior LB and Indiana recruit returned two interceptions for TDs (62 and 65 yards) in a 58-7 win over Meadowbrook. Shaw also added two rushing TDs on offense. SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK Alphonso Sims, Marion Harding: Senior RB/DB helped the Presidents get their first win of the season by returning two blocked punts for TDs in a 47-41 win over Lorain. Riley Sheptock, Berlin Center Western Reserve: Senior WR/DB/KR showed his worth in a 28-12 win over Sebring. Sheptock returned a kickoff 92 yards for a TD, intercepted a pass on defense and carried, caught and threw the ball on offense. Sheptock ended the game with nine carries for 69 yards, two receptions for 40 yards and after taking over for injured starting QB Jeff Clagg, completed both his passes for 34 yards and a TD. Luke Smurthwaite, Grove City: Senior QB completed 20-of-28 passes for 349 yards and two TDs and carried the ball 23 times for 92 yards and four TDs as GC rallied from a 19-point halftime deficit to beat previously unbeaten Groveport-Madison 40-34. Aaron Kemper, Winton Woods: RB tallied six TDs and 261 yards on 21 carries in a 42-7 win over Walnut Hills. Akise Teague, Ursuline: Senior RB/DB accounted for six TDs (four rushing, one receiving and one on an interception return) in a 53-14 win over Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin. Maty Mauk, Kenton: Junior QB completed 27-of-39 passes for 490 yards and seven TDs in a 70-21 win over Elida. He also ran for 76 yards and another score. Derek Carmichael, Triway: Senior QB accounted for six TDs in a 48-28 win over Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy. Carmichael threw for 219 yards and four TDs and rushed for 31 yards and two scores. Mike Jackson, Roger Bacon: Senior WR/DB had 15 tackles (seven solo) in the Spartans 23-8 win over previously unbeaten Dayton Carroll. On offense Jackson added three catches for 78 yards and two TDs. Kaleb Goins, Lehman Catholic: Senior RB scored four TDs in a 69-12 win over Troy Christian to tie the Cavaliers career TD record (59). Ray Russ, Willoughby South: Senior QB completed 29-of-57 passes for 391 yards and five TDs in a 48-47 loss to Mentor. Deonte Gibson, Lakewood St. Edward: Senior DT had six sacks in a 20-3 win over Elder. Kevin Williams, Grove City Christian: Senior FB/LB had 15 tackles, including three TFL and a sack, caused a fumble and recovered a fumble in a 73-0 win over Horizon Science. He also scored three TDs on offense. Marcus Fuller, Ashland: Senior QB tied his own school record for TD passes in a game for the third time this year (and fourth time overall) with five in a 53-14 win over West Holmes. Fuller was 12-of-16 for 300 yards. Kim Ezra, Dublin Coffman: RB scored five TDs and ran for 135 yards in a 52-6 win over Westland. Cody Kuzniczci, Maderia: Senior WR caught seven passes for 203 yards and three TDs in a 41-31 win over Indian Hill. Rashad Kyte, Reading: Senior RB scored four TDs and had 284 yards rushing on 26 carries in a 42-23 win over Finneytown. Will Stocker, Turpin: Senior RB logged 240 yards and three TDs on the ground in a 55-34 win over Milford. Daishawn Farley, Withrow: Senior RB carried the ball 18 times for 253 yards and three TDs in a 47-12 win over Hughes. Pat Boggs, Field: RB churned out 230 yards and three TDs in a 35-20 win over Crestwood. Roger Williamson, Dayton Dunbar: Senior WR/DB followed up his commitment to Michigan State this week with two interceptions in the Wolverines 13-7 win over Findlay. Kurt Laseak, Mentor: Junior LB came up with two interceptions, including one he took back 100 yards in the fourth quarter for the game-winning TD, in a 48-47 victory over previously unbeaten Willoughby South. The Cardinals scored 10 points as a result of Laseak’s interceptions. Eli Burris, Marion Pleasant: QB threw for 228 yards and five TDs and ran for another score in a 60-22 win over Morral Rigedale. Ross Franklin, Johnstown-Monroe: Senior RB rushed for 266 yards and two TDs in a 27-6 win over Loudonville. Garret Morton, Archbold: QB completed 16-of-20 passes for 370 yards and six TDs in a 56-12 win over Swanton. Marvin Owens, Marion Harding: RB churned out 287 yards and four TDs in a 47-41 win over Lorain. Mike Lopuchovsky, Hubbard: Senior K booted a 52-yard field goal in a 21-18 loss to Cortland Lakeview. Tyler O’Connor, Lima Central Catholic: Junior QB/DB/K accounted for 24 of his team’s 42 points in a 42-0 shutout of Delphos Jefferson. He completed 11-of-19 passes for 192 yards and a TD, ran for 38 yards and a TD, kicked six PATs and returned an interception 57 yards for a TD. Landon Smith, Girard: Senior WR caught seven passes for 229 yards and four TDs in a 42-14 win over Champion. D.J. Marrah, Minerva: Senior QB ran for 210 yards and four TDs and also passed for 158 yards in a 48-27 win over Canton South. Jamal Johnson, New Philadelphia: Freshman RB had 247 yards and two TDs on 24 carries in a 45-8 win over Claymont. Bryce Hodge, DeGraff Riverside: QB threw for 316 yards and three TDs in a 24-23 win over Waynesfield-Goshen. Jordie Scanlon, Clinton-Massie: Senior RB ran for 234 yards and four TDs on 22 carries in a 49-17 win over Miami Trace. BIG NEWS
55 Straight: Colerain hasn’t lost a home game since 1999 and Friday’s 56-14 win over Lakota West was the Cardinals 55th straight at home. Senior QB Tyler Williams threw for two TDs and ran for another, while sophomore RB Chris Davis ran for two scores and caught both of Williams’ TD passes. Trumball County Rushing Record: Champion’s Jimmy Rasey set a new career rushing record for Trumball County by rushing for 174 yards on 40 carries in a 42-14 loss to Girard. A 2-yard run it the second quarter broke the previous mark of 5,366 yards held by Rick Badanjek of Southington (1978-81). No Way: Licking Valley held Whitehall-Yearling to one yard of total offense in a 42-0 shutout win. The Rams managed 20 yards passing an minus-19 yards on the ground. Easy Riders: West Jefferson improved to 29-1 in Mid-State League Cardinal Division games over the last five seasons with a 21-7 win over Grandview Heights. QB D.J. Gray led the Rough Riders charge by rushing for two TDs. Washington Returns: Maple Heights senior QB Shaq Washington returned to action for the first time since exiting a Week 1 win over Nordonia and led the Mustangs to a 35-0 win over Shaker Heights. Washington, a UC recruit, ran for two TDs and threw for another. Badin Has Lost Five Games By Five Points: The Rams fell to Kettering Alter for the 13th straight time on Friday 10-7. Badin is now 2-3 on the season with its other losses coming by one-point to Taft (26-25) and Carroll (14-13). The Rams still have to play Roger Bacon (5-0), Fenwick (5-0) and McNicholas (4-1). Bucyrus Wynford Win Streak Reaches 43: The Royals extended the state’s longest regular season winning streak with a 46-20 win over Crestline. This week Wynford travels to Riverdale (3-2). The Royals last regular season loss was to Sycamore Mohawk on Oct. 1, 2006. Genoa Runs Win Streak To 34: The Comets won their 34th straight regular season game by blasting Upper Scioto Valley 50-10. This week Genoa travels to Pemberville Eastwood (3-2). OFFF-ense: Dublin Coffman rolled up 618 total yards in a 52-6 win over Westland…Columbus Academy had 544 total yards in a 61-28 win over Hebron Lakewood…Jonathan Alder rushed for 408 yards in a 56-12 win over London… DEFFF-ense: Hamilton Township intercepted four passes and returned two for TDs in a 41-13 win over Logan Elm. LE managed just four first downs…Vandalia-Butler forced six turnovers in a 39-21 win over Miamisburg…Coshocton forced six turnovers in a 58-7 win over Meadowbrook…Delta held Northwood to 36 yards on the ground in a 15-7 win…
