The Full(er) Story: Getting ready for 1,600 miles, five camps in eight days
Team success, making the semifinals of the state 7-on-7 tournament, logging 1,600 more miles in the car and doing five camps in eight days in four states...whew is right. I have been writing about my personal experiences and individual performances at camps and combines. I have shared my recruiting updates in my story but this week it has been about our team. I am focused on becoming the best individual player that I can be for recruiting and for our team‘s season. I am scheduled to attend 15 camps this summer and log thousands of miles from Boston to Norfolk but my team comes first. I do not schedule any personal camps when my team has camp days or 7-on-7 competitions. This week we had three days of team camp in preparation for the state 7-on-7 championship in Dublin. Some coaches prepare for these tournaments like real games while others use them as learning and evaluation opportunities. Players, we just want to win. Each team was assigned a pool and guaranteed five games. Pool play was followed by a single elimination tournament made up of approximately 35 teams. Ashland played eight games and we lost to Kenton by one point in the semifinals. Kenton won the tournament. Tuesday I leave for the longest part of my camp tour. I am scheduled for an unofficial visit at Villanova on Wednesday before competing at their senior camp day on Thursday. I then travel to Fordham University in New York City followed by Harvard’s junior day and camp in Cambridge, Massachusetts. My next camp is Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts. I finish this tour in Providence, Rhode Island at Brown. That makes it five camps in eight days. I am excited to see the facilities, meet the coaches and compete with quarterbacks from other parts of the country. I am not however, as excited for the 1,600 miles in the car.
