Default D5 Region 19 Playoff Thread - 11-02-2012, 08:35 AM

Gonna go ahead and get it going a day before the 1st round games....

Who you got in the 1st round, Regional Title favorite?

#1 Lucasville Valley vs. #8 Coal Grove
#2 Oak Hill vs #7 Hillsdale
#3 Wheelersburg vs #6 Liberty Union
#4 Bucyrus Wynford vs #5 Loudonville

Valley and Coal Grove met in week 3, Indians won 34-18...thats the only regular season rematch for round 1.

Picks:

Valley 38 Coal Grove 24
Oak Hill 20 Hillsdale 17
Liberty Union 28 Wheelersburg 27 OT
Wynford 18 Loudonville 12

Biggest potential for an "upset": Liberty Union over Burg.

Week 12 matchups:

Valley vs Wynford
Liberty Union vs Oak Hill

Regional Title:

Valley vs Liberty Union

Regional Champion:

Lucasville Valley

I am pulling for the BURG, because they are SOC....just wanted to go with an "upset' (although losing to LU isnt an upset) so thats what I went with...

Wynford and Hillsdale will be tough outs especially if given tw right matchups which I think both have favorable games in round one and play into there strengths.

Valley and Wynford met last year in the Region 19 title game classic...Wynford won 54-48 in OT after Valley missed a PAT to win it. Should be a good one!

From what I've seen, it looks like Valley has more size than Wynford in the 1-4 match-up. And, both teams appear to like to run the ball more than they throw it. Both also have strong defenses.

In the other semifinal match-up, I like Oak Hill's offensive balance and I've been told Liberty Union has a nice running game. LU's defense was able to hold Wheelersburg to just 13 points last week, while the Pirates attempted 52 passes. They didn't surrender much of anything on the ground to Wheelersburg, so the Oaks offense will have their work cut out for them.

Valley (I'm a homer I'll gladly admit it lol) and Liberty Union

I'd much rather see Valley-Oak Hill in the title game.

Is our local radio going to cover on the web? I know Wynford's guys did a terrific job last year calling the game. Obviously they were somewhat biased but they gave Valley their prop's throughout the game..

No doubt...I'd rather be in person, however! LOL. Roger is rough, and seems to be cheering AGAINST Valley sometimes, but thats usually against area teams. He's pretty good during the playoffs as far as cheering for SOC teams.

That would be an interesting game, Valley and LU met in the playoffs back in 2000. It was tied at 7 at the half...LU pulled away and won 20-7.

Had that 6'6 TE/DE that went to UC I think?

Clint ended up also plying for the Detroit Lions and a couple of other teams.
The 99 team was a very good team. The current LU O-coord. was the QB on that team and I also believe the current D-coord was a frosh or soph LB on that team.

Very cool... Even though those fellas put an end to my football career!

Braden, Howdyshell, Stickdorn... I can't remember the QBs name. I remember how he played and how he looked, but can't remember his name for the life of me.

QB was Ben Johnson (Head Coach Dan's son).

I think week 13 will be Valley vs. LU, both getting there by winning close games.
