Angry Orrville @ Wooster - 10-23-2012, 11:41 PM

What has happened to HS football when there is no interest in this great rivalry. Are both communities that down on their programs? Who wins this matchup and why?

Way to jump right in guys. This is pathetic. It used to not matter what the records were. It was the game of the year for both teams. I guess we've been away to long.
Your Friends from New Albany.
P.S. Wasn't it just 2 yrs ago that they celebrated the 100th anniversary of this game. That in itself is something to hold onto.

My last post got deleted. Let me rephrase it.

There is still a high interest in this game, just not a lot of public talk about it online.

This rivalry was never big outside Wayne County when you consider it's in the Massillon-McKinley backyard. I graduated from Wooster and saw this game six times-all won by Orrville.

We need a lot of help, but we have a chance. Here's a blog entry from earlier in the week with comments from Drew Pasteur himself regarding Triway's chances:

I don't know about destroy. Orrville has at least been competitive; playing Madison & Ashland tough. Wooster has been pathetic over the last 3 weeks.

Wooster has yet to beat Orrville since I have lived here, so I would sure enjoy a victory over the Red Riders, even after both teams have had disappointing seasons. If the weather is decent, my older son (who is in kindergarten, across the street from WHS) will get his introduction to this rivalry on Saturday night. It would be a lot of fun for the first Wooster/Orrville game he sees to be a General victory!

Are Wooster people proud of running McCreary out and pleased with his replacement?

I've lived in Wayne County for almost 5 years and that's the impression I've gotten. I would agree that Orrville-Wooster is probably regarded as the biggest game in the county, but you'll still get matchups between WCAL rivals that draw strong interest (Northwestern @ Norwayne this year, for example). It doesn't seem like the neighboring counties get as excited about Orrville-Wooster (Medina and Stark counties have numerous rivalry games, Tuscarawas County has Dover-New Philadelphia).

I also get the impression that Wayne County residents are very supportive of fellow county schools that do well. I went to the 100th meeting two years ago and it was moved to Saturday night so everyone in the county could come out and not have it conflict with their school's game. Also, that Friday was Norwayne-Hillsdale for the WCAL title and it seemed like everyone in the county was there too.

I still think it'll be a big deal seeing as it's still a rivalry game and Wooster is looking to end a 7 game skid against Orrville, but I don't know how much press it will get outside of Wayne County.

triton, They should be proud of running out McCreary. A change was needed. Are they pleased with his replacement? I think there's mixed feelings there, but to be fair peolple should not judge the new coach entirely on his first year. However we live in a what have you done for me lately society and the fans want instant results. At least the few fans that seem to remain. Apathy for the program can be a very bad thing. In my opinion the change in coaches should have come alot sooner. Maybe the support (or lack of) for the team may not have gotten this bad. There is work to be done for sure. It will be hard but they need to find a way to get the community back behind them.

Seems weird not playing this game on Fri. nite. Considering the lack of interest, whats the point? I doubt that all of Wayne county will come out to see this battle, heck even the two communities involved are not even interested. Could be a yawner!!!

Interest will be bigger if Triway is still in the playoff hunt tomorrow (because an Orrville win could help the Titans). I like the Saturday night game, as it allows interested fans to attend both this game and the big WCAL contest between Norwayne and Northwestern.

Good to see the build up ready to explode. Get out the Somenex and get ready to roll. A nice glass of warm milk might have the same effect.
