Default Week 9- Bedford @ Warren G. Harding: Throwback Game #2 - 10-14-2012, 11:23 PM

For the second consecutive week, WGH will honor the past by competing in throwback uniforms as they take on the Bearcats of Bedford. This week, they'll be wearing the red, white, and black of the 1971 & 1974 WGH Panthers, both of whom were state champions (AP in 1971). If it is anything like week 8's throwback game, it should be an exciting time in Mollenkopf Stadium!

With the above being said, this week is about much more than reflecting on the past as the near future looks very bright for WGH. With two more victories, Steve Arnold will become the second WGH head coach in school history to lead WGH to the playoffs in his first season (Coach Phil Annerella in 1990). It's important that the Raiders maintain their focus & continue to get better as Region 1 appears to be very strong this year. As for Bedford, their .500, but only two of those losses came by double digits. Here's to hoping that WGH can make it three.

WGH 35
Bedford 14

I am sure I am not the only one who remembers how last years game went. WGH at home, going in for a score that would have put the game out of reach. Instead a fumble and then Bedford goes the length of the field in the final minutes with a 2nd string QB to score the winning TD. It was that kind of year.

Good luck to the Panthers! Fitch needs the points and always root for the local team. It is quite possible that Fitch/Harding could re-match in week 11 as the 4/5. At this point, the way the remaining schedule lines up, it would most likely be WGH as the 4 hosting the Falcons.

The Harding Panthers had the coolest logo of any high school team ever. It is going to be awesome Friday night even though I believe the helmet will be the 70s era "H" design in honor of the two WGH State Title teams of that era. Providing we win, it will be awesome to watch the Panthers hoist that conference championship trophy after the game.

From what I hear, the East side-West side rivalry is still going strong. It seems some things never want to go away.

Go Panthers, er... Raiders.

east side west side thing is more of an inside joke than any actual rivalry now. at least with people my age (young 30's) who grew up with the harding raiders.

i can still remember saturday afternoon panther/raider games, but 1990 is clearer in my memory.

i mean, we still call each other east siders or west siders, and we might toss a joke in there every once in a while, but the only people that still hold your side of town against you are starting to die off. literally and figuratively haha.

I may be wrong but I believe the cost was born by the marketing group that suggested the idea.
