Default Is there any team that will join the Southwestern Conference? - 10-12-2012, 12:52 PM

I found in this article: http://highschoolsports.cleveland.co...d-berea-merge/
That once Bere and Midpark merge next year, there only going to be 7 teams in the Southwestern Conference for 2013 and 2014. No one doesn't look interested in the SWC. The SWC has only made several changes in so many years.

In 1986, Amherst replaced Medina. In 2005 Berea, Midpark, and Brecksville replaced Bay, Rocky River, and Fairview. Now no one has any interest in the SWC.

With rumors of which school wants to join are Avon Lake wants Avon to joi. But Avon turned it down so many times in the past few years and are a growing community, Avon from Div. V to Div. II( back to Div. III next year with a 7th division) in 15 years and could become a Div. I team in the near future. Amherst wants Midview to join because their like a rival between them. Brecksville want North Royalton because they their a neighborhood rival back when these two teams were in the Pioneer Conference.

Why teams like Lorain, Elyria, Midview, Avon, or a team that is Div. II or Div.I that is near Amherst, Avon Lake, Berea-Midpark(once they merge), Brecksville, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, and Westlake to join in the SWC?

There has got to be a team that will join before 2015. Some of these schools refuse to join but someone has to come into the SWC and make it an eight team conference again.

Good questions and good candidates. I think North Royalton is a good choice.

I live in Avon and think they are a good choice too, if they want it. Their current schedule includes teams that will not help them succeed regularly in D2.

Lakewood has significantly over-downgraded their schedule over the last 10 years, perhaps they could make a good candidate.

I grew up in Avon Lake and have followed the SWC for 30+ years.

Four WSC schools, Avon, North Ridgeville, Midview and Lakewood all turned down the SWC one by one. The WSC superintendents made a pact to stick together. Their ultimate goal was to form some sort of merger between the WSC and SWC. The SWC doesn't want it. North Royalton also turned down the SWC. Brecksville had preliminary talks with North Royalton, Stow, Hudson, Cuyahoga Falls, Aurora and Twinsburg about forming a new league, so who knows if Brecksville is all in? I've also heard Avon and North Ridgeville made a deal to go in as a pair if two SWC openings are available (e.g. if Brecksville leaves). Of major note is that Avon has a new superintendent who is not married to holding the WSC together, so there is a chance that Avon might just take that SWC opening after all. It will be discussed after the football season.

How do you know that? Did you read it in the paper somewhere? Or Did Avon make an announcement that they are joining the Southwestern Conference?

This change does not take place until 2015 football season. Avon has to give two years notice that they are leaving the WSC.
