POLLS CLOSE AT NOON ON THURSDAY

Week 7 Nominees

*Bryan
The Golden Bears snapped a 12-game losing streak to Patrick Henry and beat the Patriots for the first time since 1999 with a 32-28 win. How Bryan got the victory is nothing short of amazing. Down 28-13 in the fourth quarter, the Golden Bears rallied with three TDs in the final 5:09 to win the game. Two scores followed successful onside kickoff attempts. QB Austin Schimmoeller led the attack by running for two TDs and throwing for two more.

*Doylestown Chippewa
Despite being down 16-7 in the second quarter, the Chipps rallied and snapped a 29-game losing streak with a 38-22 win over Waynedale. Freshman QB Bailey Breitenstone – making his first varsity start – accounted for five TDs. Only two players on Chippewa’s current roster had ever experienced a win prior to Friday.

*Beavercreek
Despite losing the turnover battle 3-0, the Beavers beat Huber Heights Wayne (14-13) for the first time in 25 years. “Signature win for the program and the biggest win in my nine years here,” Creek head coach Scott Clodfelter told the Dayton Daily News. Junior RB Arius Moore’s third quarter TD run was the difference. Creek wasn’t whistled for one penalty and converted 4-of-5 fourth downs.

*Newark Catholic
The Green Wave – a D-VI school – beat D-III Licking Valley 25-9 in a meeting of the final undefeateds in the Mid-State League Ohio Division. The victory moves NC one step closer to its second playoff berth since 2007 and leaves the Green Wave alone in first place in a league they have never won since moving to in 2002. NC is the smallest school in the MSL-Ohio (three D-III, three D-IV and a D-V school).

*Philo
The Electrics beat Thornville Sheridan for the first time since 2000 and did it convincingly. Philo limited the Generals to 63 total yards, scored 17 points off turnovers, scored on a fake punt and recorded a shut out. The final – 31-0. Philo is 6-1.

*Plymouth
The Big Red recorded their first shutout victory of the century with a 17-0 win over Greenwich South Central. Plymouth, which went just 21-89 from 2000-2010, is 9-8 in its last 17 games. After finishing 5-5 last season, Big Red is 4-3.

*Newark
After winning just two games the last four years, the Wildcats won their second game of the season with a 16-14 victory at Groveport.

*Mansfield Senior
The Tygers beat previously unbeaten West Holmes 40-29 to improve to 6-1. It’s Mansfield’s best start since 2001. RB Keevon Taylor ran for 167 yards and two TDs, while QB Jalen Reese threw for three TDs.

*Westlake
QB Kent Axcell ran for three TDs and threw for another as the Demons beat Avon Lake 28-21. It was Westlake’s first win over the Shoreman since 1984.

*Massillon Washington
The Tigers dominated previously unbeaten Austintown-Fitch 34-14. Through six games, Fitch had failed to allow more than 10 points. Massillon scored more than that in the first quarter. The Tigers rolled up 533 yards of offense, led by senior QB Kyle Kempt who ended with 308 yards and four TDs on 18-of-26 passing. It was Fitch’s lowest scoring output of the season.

Bryan comeback for sure! Best game I have ever listened to!! It was the first win against PH since 1999. It puts Bryan in the drivers seat for their first NWOAL title since 1986. So much was on the line for Bryan. They were down by 15 with 5 minutes to go and ended up winning by 4!

Bryan. Best comeback witnessed in more than 25 years of going to hs football. The varsity and coaching staff brought it ALL together with strategy, talent, heart, skill and guts.

I was just thinking the same thing when I was watching the votes for Bryan. I think they both have a lot of support. I have seen the link spammed all over Facebook so it wouldn't surprise me that they are getting a lot of votes.

Mansfield Senior is Division I with right around 1500 students and the city has a population of about 47K or so. They have a numbers advantage but as a NE Ohio native who moved out to NW Ohio about 18 years ago, you folks in Mansfield should seriously take a look at the footage below. Skip to about 2:41 or so and take a look at the final 5 minutes of play. From 13 to 28....to 32-28 in a driving rain...all heart out there...Bryan is Division III with an enrollment of less than half of Mansfield, so obviously for voting we are out numbered....but the pride this small town has for their team is unsurpassed in the state of Ohio. Go Golden Bears!

Bobber85 that is quite impressive and the folks of Mansfield don't doubt that Bryan has a lot of school pride. With that being said, are you saying the folks of Mansfield DON'T have pride in their team as well? Sure we may have the numbers to get lots of votes but the team has undergone large amounts of adversity. We have a local newspaper who, for years has highlighted all of the negative things about the Mansfield City Schools, the same paper that showcases OTHER area schools constantly even when the school has done something very positive. Prime example this past weekend, Mansfield Senior who was 3-7 last season has come out and won BIG games this year, our record is now 6-1 with our only loss coming against Tiffin Columbian. We went down to West Holmes favored as huge underdogs and showed them that our team has the determination to win. It's been 10+ years since the city of Mansfield has had anything to be proud of in our TYgers. I went to Mansfield Senior back in the glory days in the early 90's when we made the playoffs EVERY year and it was to be expected. People took it for granted then and then our program suffered for a number of years as the district went through some hard times. We are finally overcoming all of those dark times and the TYgers are showing the true talent, spirit, and heart that these young men have. So, I applaud the Bryan Bears.. but I have to say Go TYgers!!! Bring home another win, off the field and let's get this honor of Team of the Week!!!!

Way to go revyogi. I am taking nothing away from golden bears, but as bobber stated we do have about 47k in Mansfield and rarely any support or recognition for our hard working kids..unless of course its negative then trust me there is live from the scene minute by minute coverage, and its about time they got up and supported our kids, they have busted their butts this season and many prior seasons before and never gotten the recognition they deserve, I wish nothing but success for all those nominated on here! especially the Mansfield tygers. GO TYGERS
