Default Dixie (5-2) vs. Milton-Union (6-1) Week 8 Southwestern Buckeye League Dogfight - 10-07-2012, 07:58 AM

MILTON-UNION BULLDOGS

VS
DIXIE GREYHOUNDS

This is a key match-up in the SWBL Buckeye. The Bulldogs are on a tear beating everyone on their schedule except undefeated D2 Tippecanoe. Milton will need to win this game to remain in the hunt for a Buckeye Division title as well as a playoff spot. If MU wins the Buckeye, they will not only be the all-time league champion leader, but they will also be the only SWBL team to win a title in both the Southwestern AND the Buckeye Divisions.

Dixie brings in a stout team that has been in nearly every game to-date except a beatdown last week vs. Waynesville. If MU is to beat Dixie, they will have to stop Luke Bowling and the potent Greyhound offense.

This one should be a great game. It's Milton's homecoming and there will be a ton of emotion as numerous Alumni attend the last homecoming game in the shadow of Milton-Union High School, which is to be demolished following the completion of the season.

Thoughts?

Dixie has struggled against the better teams they've played this season. I think this will be another example of that. Dixie has the players to make this a good game on offense if they play to their capability. Milton Union has a good team though on both offense and defense. The Bulldogs are balanced on offense and physical on defense. I think this will be a 3 TD win by MU. I'll say:

Milton Union 42
Dixie 21

I view this game a a closer version of the Madison game. Competitive early on then Milton pulls ahead before Dixie scores late to make the final score appear closer. MU 42 Dixie 21

Milton leads the overall series history wins 7 wins to 2 for Dixie

Year Winner Score
1975 Milton 9-8
1976 Dixie 12-0
1977 Milton 34-12
1978 Milton 27-0
1979 Milton 31-7
1980 Milton 36-0
1981 Milton 32-6
2010 Dixie 30-6
2011 Milton 28-18

I think the most surprising thing to me is that in Dixie's two losses, their offense has done next to nothing. Against Brookville they were up 16-0 in the 1st Qtr but never scored again. Against Waynesville they only scored 6 total points. But in their wins, the Greyhounds have had great offense by their QB Bowling and RB. In reality, if MU's defense shows up, I think the Bulldogs win.

Milton has some experience facing a spread team but has struggled against them. However, those teams have had a lot of trouble stopping Milton's offense, should be a great game.

Milton needs to avenge a homecoming loss to the Hounds in 2010. MU should win but Dixie is very talented. MU typically struggles with teams that have a strong quarterback.
I see a game much like the Carlisle or Bellbrook games.

Milton will have to score 42 to win.

Dittos to Freak on his analysis of this game. The Bulldogs will wear Dixie out. Milton wins 48 to 31.

Milton 31, Dixie 14

If Dixie can score efficiently, this could easily end up being another one of those Bulldog shootouts they are becoming famous for.

Dixie outplays MU and holds on for a 28-27 win. Dixie played a disciplined game and won. Not sure how Waynesville beat this team by 36. Dixie is a good team. MU just lost its playoff spot.

Looks like Dixie has their mojo back. Didn't know which team would show up at Milton Union. They can play good ball when they have their heads on straight. Waynesville just dominated them. So they rebounded well from that loss.

I don't think so. If they win out, they have a solid chance of making it.

Ridge doesn't help, but Waynesville does.

Milton can still win a share of league if they win out, which I feel is more important than making the playoffs and losing in the first round.
Pierce called a great game against Carlisle but for some reason he seemed to struggle making calls against Dixie. Needed to open up the passing game a little more and that may have helped. Trying two field goals late was probably a mistake, Fields has not done real well with those his whole high school career and it did not help that the snaps and hold were not perfect, would have thought it would have been better just to go for it on the first one since there was plenty of time left.

I agree with dogsdogsdogs that Milton should not have tried that first field goal. Too far out.

The two illegal procedure penalties killed them at the end. If those had not happened, I do believe the Dogs would have scored a winning touchdown.

The snaps have been horrible all year. It cost them this game.
