Default Upper Arlington football legend passes away. - 10-04-2012, 08:52 AM

Learned earlier today from covercorner, that UA football legend, Dan Dupler passed away yesterday. Dupes played football for UA and was a major cog in the wheel of the 1964 undefeated team. Dupes stayed on at UA as an assistant coach helping the Bears earn state titles in 1967, 68, 69 and 2000. He was also on staff at East High School and their track coach for a number of years.

R.I.P. Dupes, you've rejoined Marv's coaching staff, now for eternity.

Moose, very sorry to hear of the loss of Coach Dupler. He was a man of great character and class. He always put his players and the kids he taught first, as it never was about him, but always about them! Thoughts and prayers to his family and the entire UA community. He will be truly missed. RIP Dupe and may God hold you in the palm of his hand...

Dupes did the old Central Ohio all-star game too, didn't he? I really miss that game. Props to the Cap City folks for doing what they do, but I really, really miss the old Central Ohio game at the Marv. That was a great way to roll into two-a-days.

He provided Lil' Boss and me many memories from our annual July pilgrimmage to the Marv.

From one lover of HS football to another, God bless you Dupe!

Tremendous loss. Was it sudden? Did it have anything to do with his health problems a few years ago?

I remember meeting him a couple times. If memory serves me correct he was the track coach at East at the time and we had a meet with them. RIP

RIP Dupes. I remember my first coaching job was coaching summer baseball in Upper Arlington. My first day on the job, a guy came walking up to me with some big yellow earphones on and looking like he just got back from the beach. He introduced himself as Coach Dupler. He offered to help me out for the season and get me going. I never forgot that moment of kindness. He was a great mentor and even greater mentor. I even remember visiting him in the hospital about 10 years ago when he was getting his transplant. I happened to be "in the neighborhood" in Kansas when I got the news. I was actually in Kansas and made the stop. He never let me forget the visit. Many great stories. May you finally rest in peace COACH!

I would imagine so. Most organ transplants don't last forever and a transplanted liver will usually last 10-12 years or so. I went through this with a good friend who had a liver transplant back in 1993. His lasted about 12 years. Maybe one day, technology will make it possible for transplanted organs to allow the recipient a full normal life. According to covercorner's note on another thread, Dupe's cancer recurred and he's been fighting that as well.
