It was Romney no doubt. I don't like the guy and I don't trust anything he says, but he came prepared and overwhelmed Obama. It was pretty clear that Obama was unprepared and was getting frustrated so he had to stick to tired talking points(the whole 5 trillion in tax cuts or whatever was overplayed).

Somebody splain this to me... How do you "cut 5 Trillion" in taxes when the IRS takes in 3 Trillion annually?

Is Obama suggesting that we will all be getting checks if Romney is elected?

I agree, I was really impressed with Mitt’s performance… I guess if you’ve been running for president for six years, you have plenty of time for debate practice…

5 trillion in taxes over a period of time. Could be 10 years? Could be 50? I'm not sure because Obama just makes things up.

It was not only practice...but the conviction he had behind his beliefs. He challanged the Prez on many occasions and the Prez knew that if talked he would be refuted because of all the misleading information the country gets fed with!

I agree with you on the misleading information but it does come from both sides.

A decisive TKO for Romney. Heck CNN had to even give it up while their panelist, Van Jones cried, "foul".

My wife a left leaning Dem agreed that Romney won this debate. Although a clear Romney win, I don't think BO really lost any votes. I do hope the millions of undecided voters moved to the right after last night.

Well I'm ready to try somebody else's for a change.

Obama showed up thinking he could play patty cake and sit on a publicized lead in the poll.
He guessed wrong. I am certain after licking his wounds he'll be loaded for bear next time. Question is will the ratings for the next two debates match the first? Or maybe more will tune in to see if the President can look the other man in the eye and talk without a teleprompter instead slipping into his customary campaign rhetoric.

I've never gotten the CNN thing. MSNBC? Yes, left. Fox? Yes, right.

I think you are right although historically the first debate is the most important one as a lot of folks tend to tune out for subsequent ones. I don't think debates really make that much of a difference though, although a couple in past elections may have. While Mitt was clearly stronger last night I didn't see any deathblows or moments that would sway voters except for perhaps the so called undecideds. People who have made up their mind, and I don't see how anyone out there couldn't have made up their mind at this point, I don't see changing.

I am curious to hear from the conservatives on the site. I think Mitt last night showed even more of a move back toward the middle. I've criticized him for not really being sure who the real Mitt is as his move to the pretty far right during the primaries just didn't seem to dovetail with his record. I think Mitt is probably more centrist than a lot will admit. What do you think as a conservative and if so does that concern you or is it a good thing?

I was going to say that Romeny won the first debate, but today President Obama is claiming that Romney was not at the debate, that it was somebody else. I thought that the guy looked and sounded a lot like Mitt Romney, but maybe there are a lot of other people who could make the President look that bad.

Romney wins (as if it matters or changes even one vote!) but as usual, had to lie like a rug: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/1...6pLid%3D215506

I consider myself a Moderate-conservative so I don't have a problem with centrist ideas. I am adamantly opposed, however, to the far left policy/agenda of our current president.
Being a former Republican governor of a Democratic state means Romney had to work with Democrats. He has demonstrated he can. We need a government which will work together. At least in part. Romney spoke of such last night when explaining he spoke in principle because he must work with Democrats to solve this nation's ills not ramrod policy through when holding majorities in both houses without a single Republican vote!

Undecideds (possibly 10-15% of the voting electorate before last night's debate) will decide this election.
I believe most are probably moderates. Therefore, Romney as a more moderate Republican may have a better chance for these votes than the other Republicans who ran in the primary as far right conservatives.

Just like the position that the Prez had when he states that Mitt is going to raise taxes for the middle clase. He got beat down in front of a NATIONAL audience that he was lying. What did the Prez do? Like all liers...look at his notes, clench his teeth (many times) and give you a smiley smerk to hide the pain he was feeling because finally somebody with respect called him out!

Down goes Frazier...down goes Frazier...
