Default Dublin Scioto (5-1) at Dublin Jerome (3-3) - 10-01-2012, 12:54 PM

2008 Scioto 42 Jerome 14 Scioto raced out to a 28 – zip lead as nothing went right for the Celts all night. Bradley McDougald stole the show with long opening kickoff and finished the night with nearly 100 yds rushing, 100 yds receiving, an INT, and 4 TDs. The Celts Kevin Jackson put on a great show of his own running for 100 and throwing for 200. Long drives ended in turnovers for the Celts and the Irish took advantage of big plays, trick plays (two fake punts I believe), and a short field to make the score look much more lopsided than the yardage and TOP was.

2009 Scioto 43 Jerome 28 Scioto’s 2010 class had dominated at virtually every level (MS, Frosh, JV). Big things were expected of this large senior class, but a tough early schedule (3 playoff teams in the first 5 games, injuries, and a few suspensions had the 2009 team off to a 1-4 start. Things turned around with a miracle finish vs. Westerville Central on Homecoming and the team hit its peak in week 9 and 10 destructions of Jerome and Marysville. An incredible 7 turnovers by the Celts handed Scioto a 30-7 lead. Jerome got things together in the 3rd while the Irish were busy celebrating and closed it to a 37-28 game. A pick-6 by Stacey Blunt ended the Celtic threat and give the Irish a 2-0 series lead over the snake bit Celts.

2010 Jerome 15 Scioto 12 The 2010 game picked up where the two earlier versions left off. Jerome fumbled the ball away to the Irish on the their opening possession and Scioto turned it into a 6-0 lead. The Irish would add another TD later to make it 12-0, with everything pointing to an Irish 3-peat. Jerome hung in and started getting Donovan Wilson going in the 2nd half. Ryan Gannon showed poise and composure not seen in his nightmare outing a year previous. He mixed precise passing and timely runs to keep the Celts in it. Turnovers haunted the Irish this time around. The Celts converted 2 Irish 2nd half fumbles into TDs to win 15-12. The Irish had a chance to ice the game when they were leading 12-7 late and forced Jerome to punt. The Scioto punt returner muffed the punt at mid-field giving Gannon another chance to exorcise the demons of 2009.

2011 Jerome 24 Scioto 12 Last year’s game can be summarized in two words: Donovan Wilson. Wilson was pretty unstoppable all night toting the rock nearly 40 times for 270 yards and 3 TDs. Jerome got out to a 17-6 lead on Wilson’s legs. A Demars TD pass to Shadoan cut the lead to 17 – 12 in the 4th. The Irish got the ball back, but a 4th down gamble in their own territory ended their hopes of making the comeback. Jerome rode Wilson to his 3rd TD of the night to put the game away 24-12 and even the series at 2-2.

How will the 2012 edition play out?

Jerome started a disappointing 0-2, but has since gotten the D-Train untracked and he is putting up Central Ohio P.O.T.Y. type numbers while Jerome has won 3 of their last 4 games.

Scioto has caught many by surprised with a new, high octane offense and are scoring points in bunches. The Irish no-huddle is producing just under 40 points per game. With Demars throwing, Houston running, and Shadown & McDonald catching & running, the Irish are also averaging an impressive 20 first downs per game.

Scioto's defense, while vastly improved, is still allowing 24 points per game. However, in their defense, they've faced some good spread attacks in the form of Coffman, Westerville South, Westerville Central, and Canal Winchester. As a matter of fact, Jerome will represent the first non-spread team that Scioto has faced this year. The defense might actually relish getting to stack things up a little bit and concentrate on the run.

Jerome has a big o-line to complement Wilson's running. The Irish are a bit undersizes in the front 7 but could change that by having Soph Brennan Sawicki go both ways and join big Brother Mason on the D-line this week. In addition, I would expect William Houston to force the coaches to drag him off the field this week as he won't want a repeat of Wilson's 2011 performance. Buried in a lot of the news from last week's South game was the great job Houston did on defense, registered nearly 10 tackles and a key interception which arguably turned the tide of the game.

The Scioto spread wing-T against Hundley's double wing. There won't be a bigger contrast of styles in Central ohio this Friday. DeMars slingin' it against Wilson luggin' it. Silver vs. Gold. River Rats vs. Muirfield Brats. Can..... you ....dig.....it!

I truly believe this has the potential to be a trap game for Scioto. Coming off of their biggest win of the season, with (currently) undefeated Darby up next week. Jerome is a better team than their record indicates and has progressed greatly since the first couple games. Really think Scioto's D will not be able to handle Wilson.

That being said, DeMars and Scioto have looked REAL good. I feel, however, that DeMars has been so good that he is bound to have an off game where he throws a couple of bad passes and makes some bad decisions that cost the Irish the game. In addition, Jerome has no playoff chance-- you would think they would LOVE to muck up their fellow Dubliners playoff shot. This will be their game of the year.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I think DeMars throws 2-3 costly INTs and Wilson runs for 4 TD's. JEROME 31-28.

SC: I hear you and respect your reasoning. But I will offer that there is no chance Scioto is looking ahead to Darby. Not out of disrespect to Darby, but instead out of hunger to beat Jerome. The loss to Jerome weighed as heavily on this team as knowing they had the worst record in school history last year (2-8). Players, good players, left the field that night saying "it" would not happen again.

Scioto's LB corps will be critical. Scioto was small across the D-line and relatively weak (and undersized) at LB last year. That played a huge part in Wilson running wild on them. I don't expect that to happen again. They are bigger and much stronger and athletic across the front four. Not sure if Conner is back this week, but Zimmerman is leading them in tackles and I would expect William Houston to make it personal this week. If Conner plays, that is just a bonus. Wilson will likely get his hundred, he did against Darby and Coffman too, but he will not roll for 270 again. Of that much I am sure.

Rain could be the biggest factor. It can change, but they're calling for showers as of now. That could be a boost to Jerome and could help slow down the Scioto express.

Only way Jerome has a chance is if they control the ball with Wilson and Scioto makes a lot of mistakes. Don't see it happening...31-10 Irish

Boss...I saw some tape on those backers.
They are freaking HUGE! One of them has got to be the biggest kid on the team. If houston is 250 that kid got to be 275. Wow!
I think they will be able to slow down the Wilson freight train.
i do think that Jerome will be content to just plow ahead getting 2-4 yds a clip eating up the clock. They did a great job of that vs Darby shortening the game. That game would have been over before 9 had the lightning not struck lol.

Lites: You'll be shocked to learn who that is.....#42 Nick Conner. He, the sophomore, of undefeated Davis team of 2 year ago. This is his first year in organized football not being the feature back. I think it is actually a good thing for him getting to concentrate on Defense. He is an amazing tackler and has a football IQ that is off the charts. Had a game changing Pick-6 against "the Drake", which really turned that game and proved to be a springboard for the rest of the season. The biggest fear on Hard Road is that he decides to become the next MLB triple crown winner and signs a pro contract next year. As unbelievable as it sounds, he is probably a better baseball player than he is a foobtall player. Anyway, he only looks 275. I think he goes 6'3 - 6'4 and 210. Incredible frame however. Best part is, he is always about the hardest working guy on whatever team he is on too. Even though he was "all-everything" at Davis, he'd still be the last one to leave the field helping the AD put cones and pads and stuff away.

I will add however, that Conner missed the last 3 quarters of the North game and all of the South game. Hope he is back this week for Jerome.

#5 is a h$ll of a football player...is that shadoan?
I was very impressed with him.

I saw the WS game so it must have been a backup MLB. Huge kid!
Sawicky the younger and Conner were a 2 man wrecking crew for Davis like you said. Conner was almost unstoppable toting the rock back then. Men amounst boys!

Eli Berry maybe, #32 possibly? He plays NT, but they often float him back in zone blitzes and sometimes he lines straight up at MLB. Thick body. Squats 5-hundo. He's about the only other defender with size, who plays LB besides Houston and Conner.

Zimmeroman, MLB/P is not that big. Mason Sawicki (64) and Kenny Coleman (90) both have some size, but neither ever line up at LB.

Well, I'll start with a "WHEW!".

Didn't start well. Jerome rode the D-train to a 16-7 lead. Not sure of the official numbers, but I'd guess he had 30 carries and 150 by the first drive of the 2nd quarter. The Irish "went big" as I predicted with B. Sawicki and Houston going full-time on D, but they still had trouble containing Wilson. Props to the Jerome O-line. They gave him the seams he needed and he ran hard.

The Irish struggled and matters weren't helped by a Demars INT and a McDonald fumble. Jerome consumed massive amounts of clock on 17 play 80 yard type drives. First half T.O.P. was around 18 to 6.

The Irish got things going on the last drive of the half. Jerome's clock operator was really, really bad. The clock had to be re-set twice on the drive I think and should have been re-set a 3rd time before the last play. A Demars pass got the ball to the 29 with 9 ticks left. The clock operator lets it run down to 6 ticks. 9 seconds would have given the Irish times for 2 plays potentially. THE play of the game was the final play of the half. The Irish trailed 16-7, on the Jerome 29, with :06 on the clock. DeMars scrambled as time expired and chucked a ball up in the end zone that Travis Yates went up for in double coverage and pulled it down, making it a 2 point ball-game at the half 16-14. Jerome was getting the ball to open the 2nd half, so things would have been much different had they not converted that play.

lites would have loved what happened next. With the rain starting to come down to start the 2nd half, Irish DC Jim Schaefer channeled his inner Coach Nickerson (All the Right Moves) and did a variation of the 6-2 stack monster. To slow the D-train, the Scioto D-linemen started submarining the Jerome O-line making a pile up at the L.O.S. This gave Wilson fewer running lanes and helped turn the tide in my opinion.

Scioto pushed it to a 28-16 lead on 3rd quarter runs by Shadoan and Wilson. Jerome came back with another Wilson touchdown later after they started mixing some King runs and passes into their play list (28-23).

On the ensuing drive, Scioto gave a Jerome a little taste of the H-train. The Irish ran off a 13 play, 80 yard drive in which Will Houston carried in on 11 of the 13 plays, including 10 in a row. Props to the Irish O-line at this point. They made holes and William ran hard and nimble. Houston capped it with his 3rd TD of the game to make it 35-23.

Jerome's last serious threat ended in a tipped pass which Scioto's Anthony Davis took to the house on a 93-yard pick-6.

Good win. Nice job o-line. Hat tip to coach Schaefer for the second week in a row of making critical half-time defensive adjustments.

Good win for the Irish. Irish (6-1) and Coffman (7-0) are doing great. Meanwhile Jerome (3-4) the forever 500's are on their way to another average year. 2009 to 2011 their record was 15-15. In their last 48 games they are 24-24.

This game shows me that Jerome can hang with anyone... Anyone else think they have a shot at upsets in weeks 9/10 (Home vs South and at Central)? I think week 9 vs South may be an upset...
