Gahanna Lincoln @ Reynoldsburg -
09-26-2012, 09:08 PM
Huge game for Two of the original Five members of the OHIO CAPITAL CONFERENCE ,formed in December of 1966 @ Millers Village Inn in Gahanna. This should be a very very close game, needed by both for a playoff spot , and to try to keep pace with both Pick. Central & North for the OCC championship. Good Luck to both schools and Go LINCOLN !

Not sold on gahanna. I think Reynoldsburg may keep it close 20-17 gahanna.

What exactly is it going to take to be sold on Gahanna? They have been racking up points and keeping other teams out of the end zone. Close early maybe...but the Lions will pull away.

I think this outcome depends a lot on the hangover the Raiders may experience from letting the PC game slip away. Will they be angry and motivated or sulking and flat?
Gahanna should obviously be favored, but I would be surprised and dispapointed if it was a blowout. RHS has the athletes to play with anyone. It's between the ears that concerns me.

Have to agree with Run n Shoot. Who have they really beaten to this point?
It's not their fault, but it seems UA and DeSales are in a rebuilding year at 2-3. Newark and Groveport are awful at 1-4. That leaves Strongsville, which I admittedly know little about, but they are 2-3 also. That's a combined opponent record of 8-17.
I'm not saying they aren't a great team, but the jury is still out.

I do not know if Gahanna is a great team or not, but they are not getting the respect that they have earned from many posters. If DeSales, Strongsville, and/or Upper Arlington had beaten Gahanna they all would have winning records at 3-2. Granted DeSales and Arlington are not as strong as years past, but Gahanna doesn't control this.
What people forget is that Gahanna went 8-2 last year. Both losses were to Upper Arlington and Pick Central. In both games Gahanna was leading at the half. Gahanna went to the playoffs and beat media darling Westerville Central. Gahanna did this with their back up QB all year. They also lost their starting running back for the year week 6. The defense recorded 5 shut outs last year and went on the road and beat a very good Pick North team to make the playoffs.
The injured QB who missed 11 games last year is back. So are many defensive players from last year's team. The team has only given up more than 10 points once all year.
I find it ironic that people are willing to call Reynoldsburg a good team, but the jury is out on Gahanna. Gahanna did win last year 33-0. Can Reynoldsburg win this week? Heck, yes. Yet, I also know Gahanna can play with anyone in the state. They proved that when they went up to St. Ed's earlier in the year and played to a 0-0 scrimmage for a half. St. Ed's is the topped ranked team in the state.
Is Gahanna ready to win the league this year? Nobody knows. Yet, I see many people high on teams that did not make the playoffs last year (Darby, W. South, and several others) yet Gahanna did make it, has many starters back (3 year starter at Mike LB/3 year starter as nose guard), but the jury is still out. You need to come out and see the Lions play. They are better than you think...

The jury is still out because of some of the things you mentioned already.
You mentioned the scrimmage with top ranked(actually Iggys is the top ranked team) Eds(I think is 3rd), Since you are talking scrimmage, what about DeSales "scrimmage" against Westerville South? They got annihilated. WS also crushed PN in their scrimmage. But it was just a scrimmage
You say WS and Darby didnt make the playoffs last yr, well that WAS last yr.
Davidson made the playoffs for how many yrs now, but does that mean they are going to make it THIS YR?
Keep piling up the Ws and the Lions will earn their respect. Start with Reynoldsburg this week and then you got the 2 Picks at the end.
To be honest with you prolly wont get much love until those Pick games.
I said Gahanna could run the table or fall out of the playoffs(this is a must win game this week).
Im glad to see some Lions on the forum!

Here is Strongsville's schedule per Joe Eitel
Strongsville 2012
8/23 A Lake Catholic (2-3) [3:9] L 21-49
8/31 H Gahanna-Lincoln (5-0) [1:3] L 7-21
9/7 H Padua Franciscan (2-3) [3:9] W 12-7
9/14 A Elyria (3-2) [1:2] L 14-41
9/21 H Valley Forge (1-4) [1:1] W 28-14
9/28 A Twinsburg (2-3) [1:2]
10/5 A Medina (1-4) [1:2]
10/12 H Brunswick (4-1) [1:2]
10/19 A Mentor (4-1) [1:1]
10/26 H Solon (3-2) [1:1]
Not too impressive and throw in the Triple OT win to a down DeSales team and UAs wheels seem to have come off.
We can break down alot of teams schedules at this point(my team included)
Just do as Al said...just win baby!

I am perfectly aware that last year was last year. I also realize that scrimmages do not count. I did not post to say the Lions are the best team around. But, I do think it is ignorant and short-minded to say the jury is out on the Lions, regardless of how they end up this year. They are 16 and 2 their last 18 regular season games dating back to 2010. They have many key returning starters that were a major part of those 16 wins. You say just win, baby? It looks to me like they are...Go ahead and crown Pick North the OCC champs, go ahead and believe that the Darby's and Westerville's and Tangy's are for real. I'll go with the team that just keeps on winning...

It is not ignorant or short minded to look at Gahanna and see not one of their wins this year was against a team that currently sports a winning record. Last year doesn't matter. All that really matters is where they stand at the end of the season. Right now, I would say they are favored against every team left on their schedule not named North. Their schedule is back end loaded. Just win and the respect will take care of itself.
The Lions definitely have a good program.

Not sure that I would just 'give' Pick North the OCC Ohio crown, they'll have to earn it (vs. Pick Central and Gahanna). As for Westerville South, Hilliard Darby and the rest, we'll see. That certainly doesn't mean that they aren't for real, because they missed the playoffs in 2011. Since Gahanna didn't make the playoffs in 2010, should people have considered them suspect in 2011 (when they did make the playoffs)? Like spurs said, just keep winning and the Lions will get their due respect. Looks like Gahanna has a good-to-very good team this year. Good Luck.

You're right... last week could either deflate the Raiders or motivate them. Based upon their attitude at the end of the game, I think the Raiders will come out fired up this week. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think they're going to give Gahanna all they can handle.

Lites....Gahanna Lincoln, Reynoldsburg, Westerville, Whitehall, and Worthington. They first gathered at Millers in Gahanna (A+ food) in December in 1966, and the first year of the OCC, was the start of the 1968 school year. Delaware Hayes, Mount Vernon, and Pleasant View, (now Westland) were added before the start of play.

thnx BIG.
Had a few right!
When did UA join the ranks?
I think this weeks game will tell a tale.
RB will either get eliminated or jump back in it with a chance to make it by running the table.
GL gets to move up the charts so to speak if they win and can hold serve until they get the Picks at the end.

Wow! Raiders pull the upset. The upset bug bit tonight -- not just for Gahanna, but for other teams as well.

Upset, really. OCC is horrible. Reynoldsburg and Pick North are the top teams. Gahanna hasn't played anyone. Love Gahanna, but DeSales is bad, UA is bad, Strongsville is bad, Groveport is bad, newark is horrible. Same old Gahanna. Need old Gahanna that puts points on good teams. Defense is great against crappy teams. Oh well, better win again Pick North or no playoffs, that's how bad OCC is.
