Central Catholic League (Week 6) -
09-25-2012, 06:51 PM
Sorry for the late posting, I have quite a busy schedule to start the week.
St. Charles (4-1) @ St. Francis DeSales (2-3)
Summary: Here we are again... I'm not exactly sure how many years its been since St. Charles defeated DeSales, lets just say it was sometime during the Cold War. If the Cards are going to do it anytime soon, it's gonna be this season. St. Charles is coming off 4 straight wins with their only loss being against undefeated Pickerington North. DeSales has had a seesaw season that has had highs of defeating Chillicothe (34-0) to lows of getting blown out by New Albany (56-22). Both teams need this win crucially and this could be the death knell speaking playoffs for the losing side.
Prediction: Tough to say, I think this season its going to be a tight game. All in all, I cannot go against 30+ years of history. DeSales pulls even at .500
Bishop Watterson (3-2) @ Bishop Hartley (5-0)
Summary: The game of the season for the Central Catholic League. The Golden Eagles are limping into this game off 2 losses to outstanding opponents. Hartley has glided through the season in 5 relatively easy games. If your going to this game, get there early because there will be no seating available. Can the little brother pull out the victory over big brother? The Hawks haven't lost a game on Jack Ryan field in years. Will the streak continue?
Prediction: Hartley wins by double digits.
Bishop Ready (5-0) @ Linsly WV (1-4)
Summary: The Silver Knights had the highest scoring offense in the state last Friday as they rolled Coal Grove in a driving rain storm, 72-20. Ready's RB Strickland is averaging 10+ yards per touch through half the season. The Knights will travel to play a team that gave them nightmares last year. Ready was shutout last season by the military academy on homecoming night. Will the Knights extract revenge and move to 6-0?
Prediction: Ready by whatever they want.

I think the tailgating was already started tonight! This is going to be a great game . As of now weather looks to be perfect. Should be a packed house. I sure hope you are right with that prediction!!!!!

At least you have a sense of humor about it.
I do believe St. Charles has a legitimate shot this season. Beechcroft, Eastmoor, and Rogers all have winning records and are at the very least decent wins (moreso Eastmoor and Beechcroft).

I have to have a sense of humor about it... I wasn't even alive when we last beat DeSales!!!! And yes this is the BEST year for many years... Just hope the team isn't feeling the pressure. This would also be HUGE for the playoff picture... win this and we can afford a loss to Kings/Watterson. Its now or never.

It was because the other team's head coach refused to trade game film with coach Cutler. Leaving the starter's in until three minutes left in the game and continuing to attempt to score was the response to that slight....like it or not.

I didn't know that a football team was supposed to help the other team stop itself. Especially when the other team kept its starters in. Sounds like whinning to me. And if Coach Lucas didn't exchange film like has been said, then giving up 72 points is perhaps a clue that he should so that he has some type of plan of defense.

Not so sure I would risk injury in the second half because of a game film spat.

I agree that is a risk and probably one I would not take, but in defense of the decision: the starters had not played a whole game before this one and the other team was too exhausted to hurt anyone anyways. With that said still a big risk and luckily one that worked out ok.

They have better records yes. Those teams however are not. Every one of those teams is D5 or 6 that Ready has played with the exception of the second worst city league team, Briggs. Hoban and Amanda Clearcreek would be 5-0 right now if they Got to play Readys schedule. The only good teams Ready plays all year are LCC and Hartley. Don't even try to tell me NC is good they about got beat by Academy who is not very good at all.

Like it or not, Newark Catholic and Fredericktown will most likely be around come playoff time. No, Ready has not played anyone of their caliber yet, but this time last season the playoffs were a long shot..same with the season before that. Stop the complaining, this schedule was to help ease what was expected to be a transitional year for Ready. NO ONE would have expected the Knights to be where they are at, progression wise.

Not complaining about anything. I was referring to the post by GZ, where he said Readys opponents have been better than Hartleys which is clearly a false statement. I'm not trying to take anything away from Ready I'm glad they are back to their winning ways.

Are you serious? You seriously think Amanda-Clearcreek would be 5-0 if they had Ready's schedule? I went to Baltimore to watch the AC vs LU matchup and both teams played like they would go .500 at best if they played Ready's schedule. Hoban is not as good as they used to be, Amanda is in a down year. East Knox is surprisingly having a not so terrible year, but I think nonetheless Ready would equally demolish EK. The only team that Hartley has played so far that looks like they will be in a position to make the post season is East Knox, and even that is suspect. As for Ready, it looks likely that Newark Catholic, Fredericktown, and maybe GCC and maybe Coal Grove will make the playoffs.
I'm not bashing Hartley's schedule, because as everyone knows their second half is pretty legit. But to say Ready hasn't played anyone good is ludicrous. Division size is immaterial. It wasn't that long ago Hartley was playing a really bad Centennial team.
I don't care for schedule bashing. All the CCL teams are having issues filling the schedule simply because there aren't many near by leagues with the exception of the CCL that play less than seven conference games, so open weeks are hard to come by.

Which of Ready's opponents so far would beat AC or Hoban? None.
Hoban is the best team so far that has been on Hartley or Ready's schedule.
They may be 0-5 but they are big physical and fast, they have just played some of the top teams in the state and lost.
The records of Ready's opponents so far may be better, but those teams are not better, they have been all smaller schools besides Briggs who is flat out bad.
This is probably the dumbest debate ever on jjhuddle, but a better record doesn't mean your better than a team with a worse record that has played tougher opponent.

The schedules are very comparable.. I dont think one is clearly tougher than the other. AC is down this year, they would not be 5-0. Hoban has played a great schedule but they've also got their butt whooped in every game. No one can say this is the best team Ready/Hartley has played because there is no way of comparing the two. The schedules and results have been comparable.
