You vote, you decide...who had Ohio's best Team performance in Week 1? Find out who the nominees for the Ohio National Guard JJHuddle Ohio Football Team of the Week are here and how to pick the winner. The choices are impressive...

VOTING ENDS AT NOON ON THURSDAY

Week 2 Nominees

Newark
The Wildcats won their first home game in five years by defeating Logan 35-32. Newark led 21-0 before having to rally twice in the second half for the win. Shawn Dillon’s 32-yard TD run was the difference. Newark’s last home win was a 32-14 win over Shaker Heights on Sept. 14, 2007.

Bradford
The Railroaders – led by former Ohio Mr. Football, Penn State star and NFL first round draft pick Curtis Enis – are 3-0 following a 61-41 win over National Trail. Bradford went 3-27 from 2007-2009 and hasn’t had a winning season since 1997. Since Enis took over in 2010, Bradford is 13-10. In the eight years prior they were 17-53.

Clinton-Massie
The Falcons dominated host Jonathan Alder 49-7 in an anticipated match-up of top teams whose last three games had all been decided by one point. Massie’s defense had nine sacks, 14 TFL and five takeaways (three INTs), two of which were returned for TDs. Junior Bayle Wolf ran for two TDS and returned an INT for a TD. The Falcons outgained Alder 425-110 in total yards.

Williamsport Westfall
The Mustangs recorded their second straight last second come-from-behind win. Down 34-22 after three quarters, Westfall scored two TDs in the final 2:30, including the game-winner on a 25-yard pass from Trent Williamson to Luke Cline with two seconds left, to beat Circleville 42-41. Last week the Mustangs rallied from a 27-12 deficit by scoring two TDs and adding two 2-point conversions in the final 3:08 to beat Logan Elm 28-27.

Urbana
After losing to Springfield Shawnee in overtime two of the last three years, the Hillclimbers broke through for a 43-27 win over the Braves in a game that was delayed by lighting on Friday and resumed Saturday. The contest was tied 27-27 in the third quarter before Urbana scored 16-unasnwered points to end the game. Senior RB and four-year starter Tanner Lawrence carried the ball 28 times for 133 yards and three TDs.

Norwalk
The Truckers had their first winning season (7-3) since 1977 last year and improved to 3-0 this season with a 38-10 win over Lakewood. That coupled with a Week 10 win over Upper Sandusky means the Truckers have won 11 of their last 14 games after years of futility. QB Jake Fetherolf led Norwalk over Lakewood by completing 21-of-29 passes for 336 yards and four TDs. He also ran for a TD.

Cleveland St. Ignatius
The Wildcats destroyed Mentor 48-21 in a match-up of Northeast Ohio powers before 9,000 strong at Byers Field in Parma. Ignatius built a 31-7 halftime lead. QB Mike LaManna completed 18-of-27 passes for 292 yards and three TDs, while senior RB Tim McVey ran for 217 yards and three TDs. The Wildcats defense produced three turnovers and six sacks.

Miamisburg
After going 4-36 the last four years, the Vikings improved to 2-1 under new head coach Steve Chanel with a 13-10 win over previously unbeaten Franklin. It was the teams first meeting since 2004. The Burg’s defense forced three turnovers and scored on one (a 10-yard INT return by Tyler Ikerd). Chanel spent 21 seasons at Trenton Edgewood and led the Cougars to 10 playoff appearances and the 2003 D-II state final. Last year he was Middletown’s QB coach. The Vikings haven’t had a winning season since 2003.

Granville
The Blue Aces ended host Jackson’s 21-game regular season win streak with a 28-14 win. Senior QB David Fraley threw for 242 yards and three TDs, including two in the fourth quarter to break a 14-14 tie.

Stebbins
The Indians snapped a 21-game losing streak with a 27-12 win over Greenon.

Mix 98.3 WPKO - It took two nights, but it was worth the wait for Urbana as they downed the Shawnee Braves 43-27 on Mix 98.3 WPKO. With the game tied 20-20 as play resumed, Urbana and Shawnee exchanged third quarter touchdowns. After that it was all Urbana as they turned two Braves turnovers into points en route to out scoring Shawnee 23-7 over the final 24:00.

Urbana (2-1), got a huge game from Tyler Powell who grabbed 10 passes for 175 yards and two touchdowns. Powell also recorded a key fourth quarter interception on defense.
Powell was named the Steve Austin's Player of the Game.

Shawnee (1-2) has lost back-to-back games for the first time in more than two years.

Clinton Massie impressive game. Against a #1 team. Great rivalry. Great defence. Wyatt Running was a impressive rusher. They never let up.

Agreed. Massie was the real deal in this game. As much as I hate to say it, my vote goes to Clinton-Massie.

Smile Stebbins Broke YEARS LONG Losing Streak - 09-11-2012, 06:10 PM

I have watched Stebbins play every year for over 4 years and they have had a bad losing streak but this year, the Varsity Players and Coach have really turned things around, scoring in games (yes scoring) and finally won a game! This is why they deserve this award!

So Massie can produce over 1,500 votes the first week but less than 100 the next time out. Interesting.
