^^^^ Good lord, more denial. Hack reporter? This is the NY Times, not some local community rag. And if you don' see his statement ("you or someone close to you will get yours") as a veiled threat, your denial reaches epic proportions.

I'd wonder what would constitute an "out of bounds attack"?

That was such a devastating quote from the coach that I find it amazing he still has his job. The NT Times would never have run that quote unless the reporter had it on tape.

And no, it is not about football. It is about human decency and the total disregard for it at Steubenville outside of their little football kingdom.

Questioning anything the almighty Reno might or might not have done.

Simply mind-boggling that someone tied to the Steubenville community of all places would label a NY Times writer "a hack writer." That is the irony of all ironies.

And the fact that you don't find Reno's comments to be threatening just further indicates your blind loyalty, your truly sick priorities and the importance you place upon a game played by children.

Pretty much sums up the majority of this entire thread.

Such a sad, sad situation. I used to have the utmost respect for the Steubenville program. More so than ANY public program in the state. And I will say again, I am an acquaintance of Reno's, and I always admired him as a coach and a person.

Have ZILCH respect for the program, and all I can say about Reno (And I will say it to his face) is that he is no better than the Joe Paternos of this world. Yeah, he's still a great coach and that is why the sick-minded people of Steubenville (who place a sick amount of importance on a game played by children) will continue to back their football god. But as a person, he is scum. Nothing more, nothing less!

HotDog: Sorry I struck a nerve, lol but I want to respond to what you said above. 1) I call them like I see them and it appears Sac was harassed on his way to his car. He owes not explanation for how he disciplines HIS TEAM except to his superiors. 2) I did not mention football anywhere and unless your Al Capone or he has affliations to NYC gangsters how could a 60+ year old coach living in Steubenville harm a New York resident? 3) Remember this thread started off being about the victim..wow have things changed since the "inside scoop" pages ago has proven to be false rumors- to many to list. 4) You are entitled to feel however you choose. 5) I am sure you can find Coach Sac around the high school and at booster meetings tough guy. Also please note that I doubt every fan views him as a football god especially when you coach for 30+ years. I know former players that strongly dislike him, and more than a handful of fans were calling for his job unfairly in 2010 after back to back losses to Massillon and Ursuline. I remember hearing a couple hundred of boo birds at Harding Stadium for the first time ever. You see Harry fans are pretty much the same everywhere..its just Big Red has a bigger following than most. If you are going to paint a picture make sure you use more than one color. Good thing knowing what you are talking about is not required to post ignorance!

The reporter has every right in the world, and the coach has every right to decline to answer. He has no right to threaten said reporter. Any school system in a community with decent human beings would have fired this cretin for that alone.

The New York Times just hates on Big Red because they are jealous of the football program and are sick of them winning. Right Big Red, that has been the common reply for all logical reasoning with this whole situation.

Let's not forget football culture is really idiotic. Too many dumb people in the sport. Too many jackass coaches. Too many crazed fans. Coach Reno is going to turn out to be another Paterno in the end. Pressure is going to mount for him to resign.

This makes no sense. Why would a newspaper be jealous of some coal cracker football team in Ohio?

This coach Reno is another Joe Paterno. He should resign now before the pressure becomes so unbearable on the community he'll be forced out.

Unfortunately, there are likely a sufficient number of people whose priorities are so skewed, nothing would cause them to want this carbuncle on the butt of humanity removed other than not winning the requisite number of games. Sad that there appear to be so many who have crossed the line from enthusiastic rooting for their school to a point where the games themselves are all that matter to them.

Hi... Just wondering if anyone knows which Steubenville coaches were hosting underaged drinking parties at their homes over the summer. The NYT piece didn't name them.

Thanks

I think some of you guys have apparently forgotten the other 90+ pages that this has nothing to do with football since l am sure Coach could retire tomorrow(if that was his choice) plus T.M & M.R likely could still be in a Big Red uniform next fall. WE NEED TO REMEMBER THAT THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH FOOTBALL, but all we want is justice for the victim.

I think everyone wants justice for the victim, save for the Big Red fanatics here who want her punished for ruining the football season over a silly inconsequential thing like rape. But the situation evolved as the Steubenville establishment -- the football coach, the principal, the super -- all acted in a completely unprofessional and morally-wanting manner, all in the name of preserving the football team. No reputable community would have put with it.

And if you're approached by a reporter with questions you don't want to hear, the procedure is to smile and say "no comment" -- not threaten the reporter and his/her loved ones with harm as that thug Reno did.

again, your hatred overstates everything. Someone from SHS must have kicked your ars as a youngin, huh?
No fan in this forum blamed our football season on this crime/noncrime (the courts will tell which one, remember Mr Lawyer)...... You and others linked the team/Reno etc, we did not. Football is an extra curricular activity. The preseason was on but school was out, these kids were in the custody/responsiblilty of their parents, not their coaches or their school.
Where you screw up is the blanket blaming you are putting on people that firstly, you do not know and secondly have no power in stopping this or prosecuting it. Move on, man.
