Default Dover beats Pickerington Central 14-13 in game scrimmage - 08-16-2012, 07:20 PM

Dover beat D1 State Runner-up Pickerington Central 14-13 in a 3 quarter game conditions scrimmage tonight! Dover's D was swarming all evening. Gave up 2 big plays, but moved the ball up and down the field against the much bigger PCC squad. Dover's boys hung with the Big Boys tonight. Great job Tornadoes!!

Didn't get to make the trip due to work but received text updates. Sounds like the Tigers have some work to do this week to get ready for Colerain.

Confident the coaching staff will get the boys on track.

"state runner up" doesn't apply to this year's team. If they get that far again this year, you can say you beat the state runner up in a scrimmage, for whatever that's worth, but it's a new year and no one has accomplished anything yet. I'm sure pc is good, and equally sure their current team is unworthy of comparison to last year's edition at this point and unlikely at any point this season.

Dover scored in 3rd qtr to win. PC,qb lightning release line fast off the ball T.E. D.E. is darn tough. Best of luck in 2012

We know all that but we are pleased that D3 Dover faced some elite athletes tonight and performed admirably.

I will take that for what it's worth...a scrimmage. Very interesting though.

I give mad props to Dover for taking on the Tigers the past two years. I would be curious to hear from the PC faithful what they thought the problem was last night. Down night? Looking ahead? Over confidence after showing well against Big Moe? Not trying to razz anyone. Just looking for honest analysis.

I also take scrimmages with a grain of salt but mentally this has to be a BIG pick me up for the Tornados. Also PC seems to respond well when humbled a little bit. No doubt the PC coaches will have everyone's attention in practice this coming week.

No, they are "technically" the "defending state runner up", which sounds just as meaningless as it is.

Looking forward to Walt's take on the scrimmage.

I am not suprised by the Tornados scoring a couple of TDs. They were a scoring machine last year.

I am suprised the the lack of scoring by the Tigers. The Tornados gave up a ton of points last year.

With that said, it is a new season. Most Tiger faithful were (are) concerned with the offense this year. They lost a ton of productive players.

The one thing that must be fixed immediately is the extra point kicking. They missed two xp in the last scrimmage. With the possible lack of offense this year, there will be many close games and a missed xp could spell doom.

Who's making an excuse? The last team in the world I'd make excuses for is PC. I don't give a rat's a@@ about PC. Dover can take however much pride they want in having "won" a scrimmage - but unless PC returns to the title game Dover didn't beat the DI state runner up. Just a fact - plain and simple.

Instead of trying to split hairs, just give props to Dover. Pick Central has a week to make sure they have a better showing against Colerain. This is probably a good outcome for both squads. Very interesting...

I haven't seen PC play before, but I assumed after leaving last night that Dover didn't get PC's best effort. I thought for sure I'd see the Tigers turn up the intensity in the 3rd quarter after what seemed like a lengthy stay in the lockerroom at halftime, but the Tornadoes won the 3rd Q 6-0. I will say that's the best I have seen a Dover defense play in awhile. They definitely seemed to be playing with more energy and purpose than the boys from Pickerington were last night. I'm sure a lot of that had to do with the beatdown Dover received on the road last year.

PC has a big and athletic defensive line, and overall their defense looks to be their strength coming away from last night. Didn't see too many game changers on the offensive side of the ball, although one of their RB's had a couple nice runs(no numbers on jersey's so no idea of name/#). The QB w/ the first team didn't make many big plays and was under pressure. I will be interested to see how PC does this year, and hope that Dover brings the same kind of effort on defense all year as they did in this scrimmage. As others have said, the result Thursday is meaningless, but the Tornadoes should take some confidence from their effort last night and look to build on it next Thursday as they host East Cleveland Shaw.

I think that this may be the best thing that could've happened to PC. I saw the scrimmage last year, and I thought that it was too easy for the Tigers. I thought that they felt that they could mail it in and still win. It took 2 losses to wake them up. This year's team is young and may have been reading their press clippings from the 4way last week. In any case, they know now that they'll have to work harder to be ready for Colerain. Also, Dover may be D3, but they are a decent team. I'm not surprised that they hung tough at home.
