Sorry gbigg - Hadn't checked in in the last few days.
I'd say the Advocate article was very accurate:
http://www.newarkadvocate.com/articl...-against-Utica
Defensively I'd say we were very sound. Utica didn't move the ball until we started subbing the 2nd team in. In the first 10 plays that were pure 1st team vs 1st team, I think Utica netted about 6 yards. 12 positive and 6 negative. (No offense to Utica fans- They ran a spread offense with a QB that hasn't played in 2 years facing his first test under pressure from a pretty good/experienced defense. Once he gets his feet under him he may produce)
Offensively, I think our QB looked very good. We have some great receivers this year - and so far our QB has looked good in 7 on 7s and now in the first scrimmage vs Utica. For the most part he had good protection Tuesday, but even when there was some pressure, he hung in there and made some nice throws before taking a hit. The scrimmages ultimately get tougher and the level of pressure on him will increase as we move along, but so far I'd say he's done well.
On both sides of the ball we still have a lot of improvement - but that's expected and the reason we play scrimmages and why the coaches film the scrimmages - for the kids to learn.
Tomorrow is Johnstown - at home at 10 am. a much better test for both our passing and running games. I'm sure it will be a tougher test for our defense as well.
