How did they look on Tuesday against Utica ? Do we have a passing game this year that we need with a smaller size team

Sorry gbigg - Hadn't checked in in the last few days.

I'd say the Advocate article was very accurate:

http://www.newarkadvocate.com/articl...-against-Utica

Defensively I'd say we were very sound. Utica didn't move the ball until we started subbing the 2nd team in. In the first 10 plays that were pure 1st team vs 1st team, I think Utica netted about 6 yards. 12 positive and 6 negative. (No offense to Utica fans- They ran a spread offense with a QB that hasn't played in 2 years facing his first test under pressure from a pretty good/experienced defense. Once he gets his feet under him he may produce)

Offensively, I think our QB looked very good. We have some great receivers this year - and so far our QB has looked good in 7 on 7s and now in the first scrimmage vs Utica. For the most part he had good protection Tuesday, but even when there was some pressure, he hung in there and made some nice throws before taking a hit. The scrimmages ultimately get tougher and the level of pressure on him will increase as we move along, but so far I'd say he's done well.

On both sides of the ball we still have a lot of improvement - but that's expected and the reason we play scrimmages and why the coaches film the scrimmages - for the kids to learn.

Tomorrow is Johnstown - at home at 10 am. a much better test for both our passing and running games. I'm sure it will be a tougher test for our defense as well.

Both teams rotated in a lot of players. Varsity did 30 plays of O/D. Valley's O scored 3 long runs after Jtown subbed in a few younger players. They were all varsity players, but it looked like Jtown was trying to find out what some younger players had to provide depth as some seniors were out. Valley's RB and FB both can run the ball really well. Jtown's Varsity O moved the ball well at times, but did not score. Valley's Dline/LBs were very tough and their secondary played well. Jtown did not pass a lot and has some work to do on O, especially on their options. Starters OG/DT Crawford & FS/RB/WR Sadinsky in street clothes and starter LB Almendinger I heard was at fair. When the 2s came in Jtown scored twice in 10 plays and then did not score the next ten. Valley did not score in their first 10 but did score in the last 10. I do not think either team played their freshmen. I thought both teams looked really tough! Good luck to Valley!

Valley's Freshman play and practice as a separate team. Last time a freshman played varsity, his name was Storm Klein.

It was a good scrimmage - love to see smashmouth football like that. Both sides were hitting and I could hear the pads popping all the way up by the pressbox.

Good Luck to the Johnnies - hope you have another great season!

Word on the MVL site is one of the TV fans was at the Valley scrimmage and said we cannot hang with them because we lack size and talent so I guess we will see. I think Valley can hang and bet TV if they have their heads in the game.

a jtown and LV scrimmage can give you that theory (not a lot of exciting talent) because of their styles... not a lot of flash... but that tends to change when you get on the field across from them and they are smashing it at you all night...

I definitely saw some hitting out there! Both teams are very physical! Both teams should be fine!

I agree with buckeyedan and 57Chevy.

gbigg - let the TV fans talk. Our boys will play the game on the field - not in the forums.

Well Friday is coming and now we play more like a game , how do you think we will do ? I would like to see some big hits as long as no one gets hurt, we need to put fear in the QB's like years back. Hit them hard a few times and they start to worry. Attack the spread teams go full out show them what Valley Football is all about. Don't set back and get picked apart go after the QB and hit someone. Tri-Valley will be coming to our house the following Friday we need to show them what Licking Valley Football is all about. Go Panthers pride in the red helmet

AMEN! MIKE FIRE- SAM FIRE - WILL FIRE!!!

The HT scrimmage has been a hard hitting affair (both sides) in the past 2 years - If we come out like we did in the Johnstown scrimmage, I'd say you will see some hitting going on!

It's up to our Seniors and our captains to get these boys pumped up and to set the tone for Valley FB in 2012!

Go Panthers! Pride in the Red Helmet!
