Default Canal Winchester's upcoming 7 on 7's - 07-25-2012, 03:33 PM

Canal Winchester will be at Groveport this evening from 6-8 then at Coffman Friday from 9-3. Curious to see how the new starting QB will look and if anyone stands out at receiver. Almost time.

84: I'm looking forward to week 1 down in the '548'. What do we have to look out for from the Indians besides the John Franklin?

RDD-77: I think Canal and the Irish match up pretty well and I think it will be a great series. I have to say, while I enjoyed Scioto's series with Marion Franklin the past two years, I'm happy to have the Red Devils off of the schedule. What a difference the two games were. In '10, there was a total of 1 offensive TD and in '11 the teams combined for nearly 80 points. Last year was a track meet and I think Scioto's matchup with Canal this year could be the same.

Can anyone report on the 7 on 7 at Groveport last night?

Who has the inside track on the QB1 job? Last year's back-up or the kid who broke his collarbone?

I was at the 7x7 at Groveport. Played it on their practice field so hard to really see how the receivers looked in space from my vantage point. Groveport's first QB looked pretty quick. Some nice timing passes.

As for Canal, both QB's mentioned above got snaps with the 1's. Both had shining moments and poor decisions. My opinion is the backup last year will start (now a senior) but looks close. The Junior played really well as a safety last year on JV and I'd like to see him play that this year. Hits fearlessly.

One DB for CW had 2 nice picks and also looked good on offense catching the ball. Doubt they would play him both ways, most likely CB. Wore powder blue cleats, nice. For some reason his Aunt did not bring her bell. That was nice for those that know exactly who I mean.

Overall the scrimmage got pretty chippy at times, but coaches seemed to control it ok. For some reason GP was in full game mode on the sideline chanting and screaming. Both teams on the same sideline also. Not really conducive to a "practice" which is what it was. Better saved until Friday Nights I would say. CW's coach really stood on the Canal kids (and an assistant coach) if they got too amped up on the sideline. Seemed to frustrate some of the Indians.

Good luck to Groveport this year and Go Indians.

Thanks for the update. Hopefully, they knocked some rust off and show improvement today at Coffman.

I would expect CW to handle Scioto week 1. Everything I have heard and seen of the Irish make me think this is a season in which they continue in dissaray.

Indians have a lot of talent and focus this season. Look for them to leave the MSL with another championship.

I thought we did well in the 7 on 7 yesterday, losing a very tough game to DeSales.

Thanks Ahm. Not sure what you have "seen" or "heard" this season, but I'll give your post all the weight and consideration I've given your other posts. In other words, I'll wait for some feedback from someone a bit more tempered and intelligent like 84Indians.

With all due respect, you tend to be a bit of a CW jock sniffer and generally lack perspective. Such as your declaration that CW will immediately be in the upper tier in the OCC Cardinal when they join. In case I need to remind you, the OCC (unlike the MSL), is not filed with DIII and DIV teams.

and- I wanted to know how you feel the CE will fair in weeks 2 & 3? Since you only gave your opinion for wk 1! How do you suggest that CW prevents their gm with MF becoming a track meet? Let me rephrase that, how do you stop MF from turning the tm into a track meet?

Walking Boss: Yea, youre probably right. Sciotowill be a lot better because, well, because Walking Boss is a fan and wants it to be? Yea, right. Keep telling yourself that. Maybe you'll win 3 games this year? You have to be a true fan to belive that the Irish football program is not smoltering right about now.

And Im sure we will never be competitive in the OCC, heck well probably fall to New Albany level? (You can be sure to check us out scrimmaging them this year, just to see how we match up

As for week 2, I think we will be fine against Delaware. Marion Franklin will be our toughest game, but they did not seem to turn into a track meet last year, it was a good game, a lower scoring game, and they won. Good job. We are a lot better this year.

See the haters this season! You dont win games on the huddle! (I guess unless youre Walking Boss, and thats all you got? Just kidding. Relax).

I was not at the 7 on 7, but I talked to some one that was. Sounds like Coffman was really tough and CW just couldn't stay with them. Also said that St. Charles looked pretty good. Sounds like CW receivers struggled a bit, but the QB's did find a little rhythm after the round robin and played better until they lost to DeSales. As for the season, it's obvious CW has some holes to fill from last year. A year in which they did not win the MSL. Sounds like they still have some work to do based on the 7 on 7's and I know for sure the offensive line is still an area where improvement must happen. Struggled in the MSL, and many questions yet to be answered the year. I'm not sure what basis anyone would be using to predict anything but a tough row to hoe for the Indians in the OCC for a few years.

Did not make it to the coffman 7 on 7, but did get over to Groveport. Thought over-all they looked okay. Neither team was overly effective in the beginning, but Groveport seemed to get it going in the second half when they moved the ball by whatever rules a 7 on 7 has? I was a little disappointed in the Indians....thought that they ran their mouths alot and got the chippiness started. The coaches jumped on it, and it was just hard football after that (at least for no pads). I wonder if the Indians will use so much man coverage this year, though they did not give up the long ball. They seemed to have difficulty stopping the underneath routes. From what I saw, I hope the running game is the focus, or this could be a long year.

7 on 7 is worthless as any kind of prediction tool. You cant take away an underneath route and the CW offense is not conducive to this exercise.

Why can't an underneath route not be taken away? They were consistantly able to hit routes in the 8-15 yd. range. I do agree that a 7 on 7 doesn't tell you much.....but it is a clue

Cdub: Agree. They are not worthless, and it does give you some insight into what sort of skill players you have. Is it the be all, end all? Clearly no. But they are not totally without redeeming value either.

You cant jam at the LOS and you can't take a guys head off when he crosses your face before the ball is released on a crossing route. 707 is a glorified, high tempo practice in which prima donna QB's can look like the second coming of Aikman and a real gamer can look like crap. LIVE with a running game and pass rush is the only true barometer in measuring a teams potential or progress.
