Default best central ohio xc teams by division you have witnessed - 07-19-2012, 10:35 PM

D1 some of the lancaster teams from 68-82 were outstanding. One season , might have been in 1980, they sent a runner to a track meet. The young man could not varsity but still broke the 2mile meet record of 930
D2 boys Heath and Sheridan had some good teams. ill say the Amanda team with Gollisch and Riddle this outfit was a very nice looking team. Someone told me at the state meet in 90 or 91, they were pinched at the first turn and walked for 50 meters and never recovered.Canal had some good teams.d3 boys Ill take Caldwell. Maybe at one time the best teams and programs ever . i would liked to have watched The Carna teams against Lancaster teams with Zishka Devault,Allen, Stickel ,Haley on and on . Northmoor had some nice teams but could never get past Amanda in around 81 and 82.Maybe some of the recent teams would have competed with the above teams? This will give a starting point. Try to put the girls teams on tomorrow.I sure hope you guys are out there. Many of you are very well versed in Xc. Like to here what you guys think.

Didn't discover the sport until '94 (began competing my junior year of high school), so unfortunately never got to witness those great Lancaster teams, Caldwell teams, Amanda Clearcreek teams.

Two central district teams that impressed me tremendously when I first started were the Lakewood boys and Amanda Clearcreek girls.
Lakewood finished 3rd in the state D2 in '94 led by the top 1,2,3 punch in the state. I believe McMullen was the name of their top guy.
Amanda Clearcreek girls were ranked near the top of the polls most of the year in D2 '95, unfortunately their lead runner struggled down the stretch with, I believe, iron deficiency, and they were unable to put it together at the state meet.
Really enjoyed watching those two teams as a newcomer to the sport.

Overall, the most impressive central district teams I've witnessed since then were the 2000 Davidson boys and girls. Both of them D1 state champs. I remember their boys, in particular, besting a very good/deep field at the state meet that year.

I don't know if any of them were the best team ever in central Ohio, but in 2001 Davidson, Coffman and Scioto went 2-3-4 at the state meet (behind a really good Turpin squad, one I knew well from my days at Walnut Hills) and Lancaster and Pickerington were not far behind at the regional meet, when only three advanced from the regional. All of those teams were pretty good.

Take this with a grain of salt, as I have only been involved with the sport of high school cross country since 1997. A few teams I remember are the late 90's Watkins Memorial teams before they moved up to DI. Then the early 2000's Davidson teams and Reynoldsburg teams. Both of those teams really could be said for the whole last decade, they are at or near the top of DI every year.
