Yes, yes, I know -- this was after the Obamacare ruling and before people got to fully understand the implications of government-run and managed healthcare. Yes, yes, I know -- i'm sure it's a boogey-man poll of known Right Wing Nutjobs masquerading as fair and reasonable people. Nonetheless, I did find it interesting.

Nah, just a bunch of racist white neanderthal homophobe redneck Nazi's reading Bibles and clinging to their guns. Pay no attention to the 2010 election results, these urchins have no power, no influence and will stay home if it's nice outside on election day. Pay no mind, people.

I guess I'm one of these folks as well. Funny thing is I don't own a gun, I am highly educated, can't find my Bible and have several African-American friends. I just want our federal government to act in a fiscally responsible manner and require personal responsibility from its citizens.

"Notably, though, the CNN/ORC International group includes three states thought to be comfortably in the Romney column this cycle: Arizona, Indiana, and Missouri."

I considered starting a thread along these lines. Let's expand it.

The polls right now spell huge doom for Obama. If anyone would have guessed in February, considering the beating Romney was taking in the primaries, that this race would be at the very least tied on the fourth of July, they'd have been branded a political imp.

The polls don't come close to representing what is going on. Reality check-- people lie to pollsters. They do it by design. They do it out of fear. They do it because they know it doesn't count.

This center-right country was polled in 2010. They were polled again in Wisconsin. They've been polled many times in smaller, less significant elections through-out Obama's term. The message is clear. We don't like the liberal agenda.

Tied on the Fourth? That sings landslide. IF we screw this up, the media will have to be far more influential than I presently give them credit for.

this isn't a midterm election or a local election it is a national election.

the gop has gotten the most votes in a national election only once since 1988.

So?

It's a movement. That's something your side lacks.

Stop the revisionist history. '92 was the Perot effect. We've been in control of the whitehouse for 12 of those 24 years. Looks like a mulligan. Surely you're not going to start that stupid 'down with the electoral college' nonsense...are you? ;)

it's a full turnout national election, not an off year election, and you've only won one since 1988.

Please rewind. It's 50-50 since '88. You are no more in the lead than you are behind.

Nationally speaking...

50-50?

clinton won in 1992.
clinton won again in 1996.
gore got the most votes in 2000.
obama won in 2008.

in 2004 bush got the most votes in a national election--the only time for a republican since 1988--and it took scaring the electorate with a war and terrorism to get that narrow win.

1988- Bush 4 years

1992- (Perot effect) Clinton 4 years

1996- Clinton 4 years

2000- (don't start that electoral nonsense) Bush 4 years

2004- Bush 4 years

2008- Obama 4 years

12-12, 50/50 tie, try harder.

Your statement is demonstrably innaccurate.

my statement was that only once has the gop gotten the most votes in a national election since 1988. your analysis backs that statement up quite nicely.

thanks for all of the help.

And, your statement is in error. We have won 3 times since 1988, twice with a majority, once with the electoral college. It's 50/50 in terms served, nationally.

The people have spoken. What in the heck are you talking about? Fuzzy math? ;)

Your statement is based on silly semantics. It has been challenged and refuted. Try starting with 'since 1992' and you'll still be wrong, but closer. ;)

lol. and since means since, not including.

you talk of my need for semantics and then you attack falsely the word since. you kill me!

"you're doing it," homer falsely said as he, in fact, was busily doing it himself.

if you had a real argument here, you'd already have been making it instead of using this stuff.

btw, i just declared california and new york battleground states. now obama is up by twenty in the battleground states.

Yes, yes...since, including.

Semantics.

Since 1988 the republicans have held the whitehouse for 12 years. The democrats have enjoyed an equal 12 years at the helm.

The people have spoken. Your twist does nothing to bolster or refute the aforementioned facts. :)

Thanks for playing!
