The Akron area has a ton. What are some by you? Do you like them? Here is at least a partial list from greater Akron:

Swenson's
Skyway
A & W Root Beer
B & K Root Beer
Dilly's
Wink's
Portage Lakes Root Beer
Retro Dog (the newest in the area)

Middletown has The Jug ( great burgers , waffel fries ) also the K&W rootbeer (used to be an A&W) stand. There is a Sonic out by I 75. That's about it anymore.

The Madisonburg OH area near Wooster used to have a good drive-in restaurant called Bishops. Their Onion Rings were the best.

Canton . '50s, 60's, early 70's
Crusin' (ala American Graffiti) the Car-Hop Stops was a weekend ritual.

On Cleveland NW (just north of 30th street) you had...
Manners (licensed for the Big Boy)
The A (Avalon) home of the Big Sis
Lujan's (sp) - HQ was in Akron

There was also a Manners on NE of town on US 62

on West Tusc - the Lincoln H.S. hangout was Ekerts (sp) 12" coneys.

Woodies Hires Boot Beer was still on Fulton

N.C. had Maxie's

Are there any still open? All of the ones in the Akron area that I listed are still open today. I'm pretty sure there is a drive-in in southeast Ohio called Sum Burger.

Today I tried Retro Dog. I liked my dog..The White Hot" (veal and pork with Stadium mustard) and the root beer float. I loved the tempura battered onion rings. This place is in Cuyahoga Falls and less than 5 minutes from Walsh and CVCA. It is less than 10 minutes from Woodridge and an easy drive from Cuyahoga Falls or Stow High. I'd recommend going there before or after a football game. It has car hops, out door seating (with a fire pit) and indoor seating, It has a very cool and retro vibe. I was stunned by the amount of concrete and brick work. This place had to cost a ton to build.

Ate at Manners many times when I was young. Remember a Big boy costing 45 Cents.

Only Woodys root beer stand at Fulton and Monument Road is still open.

Manners on Cleveland avenue was razed and a fast food place built (Burger King)
The A burned down - was replace by a Wendys
Lujans closed in the late 70's.

The Manners on US62 was sold to another restruant chain and remained sans the Car Hops
now closed

Ekerts was razed, a steak house was on the site for a while - I believe there is a bank branch there now. (the cook from Ekarts opened a restruant at the corner of Duber and W.Tusc his last name is Linsey - no car hops)

Maxies in N.Canton closed maybe about 10 years ago.

All of this is from memory - My home is now in the Columbus area (I'm doing some DOD work for the Marines now) There are no independant car hop operations in the Columbus Ohio area - Sonic has opened several in the Columbus area
- also in Stark County a Sonic in the Belden Village area

No Drive in theatres in Stark County at one time there were several

Columbus has 1 - On S. High ( a little on the rough side)

Nice Drive in Theatre on US 40 in Springfield / Sonic down the road.

There's a breakfast place on Main Street west of James, east of Gould in Columbus. Pretty good.
