They beat the last undefeated team (Wheaton, Ma.) 6-5 last night.
Today is Championship Finals.
Marietta takes on St. Thomas at noon, then the winner gets Wheaton in the final at about 3:30.

Amazing tournamentrun for Marietta. Great pitching and clutch hitting. Tim Saunders is goooood. If he doesnt get drafted the scouts are really missing out. Go Pioneers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Saunders is legit!!! Serious question, and I know it will be very touchy, is Brewer approaching/near Schaly status?

Brewer picked up right where Schaly left off, but remember.....
Don Schaly put his life (40+ years) into the program, with over 1400 wins and a .814 winning percentage.
Brewer played at Marietta 1990-1993.
Brewer then coached at John Carroll Univ. for six years, four as head coach.
Brewer then came back to Marietta as an Assistant Coach for Schaly.
He was hand picked by Schaly to be his replacement when he retired after the 2003 season.
Lets give Brian about ten years before making a call on The Schaly status...

My friend played/coached at Muskingum when both were there and he echoes your statements. I just thought it would be worth discussion.

Yes, Brian was smart to come back to Marietta where the roadmap to success was already in place. And he was a quick learner who didn't try to fix things that were not broke.
I assume offers will come from larger programs, but look for him to stay in Marietta long term.

Looking ahead to next season.......
Graduation has taken a big hit on this team.
eight seniors, including two middle infielders, and five pitchers.
Marietta will have to replace five of their best pitchers.
Pass the word, Marietta College Coaches back on the recruting trail.
They have a nice recruting video on the baseball site.
I think they'll reload.
What's your thoughts?

Reload...
Losing the core of the pitchers will always hurt, because they were soooooo dominant over the last few years. However, as been the trend for the last 4 decades, the guys who are on the JV team will step up and compete and be good. Let's be honest, and I am a non Marietta alum, those guys on the JV team are most often starters at other colleges in the OAC.
Offensively, the maximize the strength of what they have in the lineup. Replacing Saunders will be tough.
As for recruiting, I am sure that won't be tough. Basically, a blind monkey could recruit for the Pios.

Congratulations to Marietta. They win the regional from the losers bracket and then win the World Series the same way.
Winning from the losers bracket is incredibly hard, you have to have a deep and talented team.

Best of luck to Mike Deegan as he moves from Asst. Coach at MC to the Head Coach at Denison.
