I am a huge fan of Jim Leyland, but maybe it is time for a fresh voice in the locker room. Sometimes the people just quit listening. This team needs whipped into shape and you can't wait too much longer to do the whipping. If they don't start playing better within the next 3 weeks you can write this season off.

I agree. He has lost the team IMO.

Playing the Twins leading 10-5. Raburn to right replacing Boech for defensive purposes to start the bottom of the seventh and promptly overuns a catchable pop foul down the RF line. Hitter subsequently doubles sending a runner to third who eventually scores.

Gross over managing by JL. Raburn isn't any better than Boech as an outfielder (neither is very good) but Boech is now hitting and Raburn not so much.

All in all, defensive fundamentals failures a plenty tonight

Some of the most inept(sp) baseball ever! 3 potential double-plays screwed up costing Detroit a total of 5 outs. Dirks joined the comedy of screw-ups by playing an out into a single, add Raburns badly overrun foul pop thats 2 more outs. Then we have a wild pick-off attempt and an absolutely horrible throw to home plate by our 27yr rookie center fielder. There were so many freshman mistakes there is no way to recall every one. A pitcher failed to cover 1st ( I think it was Smyly) and Fielder barely beat the batter to 1st. Boesh fails to advance to 3rd on a 400ft fly ball. Twice runners failed go 1st to 3rd. Want more? How many times will JL ask Dirks to sacrifice before old bull-head realizes DIRKS CANT BUNT!!!! His approach is comical. Hell the Tigers best defender may be................Cabrera. Thats how God awful they have been. Can't fire the players, so there is only one answer. And while he can't hit, run, pitch or catch it appears JL needs to move on. Anybody have any other solution ?

We have to stay on this roll. We can't go to Boston and go backward four steps.

I will go out on a limb and predict a split..... Verlander and Smyley will pick up wins..... and the other two games will be close... but the bullpen will falter....

Would be nice if they gave Fister some run support for once.
In 5 starts he has a 1.84 era and no wins to show for it.

Unfortunately, I agree with blakeslee but one can always hope that the Tigers will just start clicking on all cylinders and we can start to make a move to the top and stay there. I also concur with Ramoth. Smylie deserves to get more (any?) support from Tiger bats. We have the best team and Jim, for all of his little quirks and hunches is a good baseball man. It is also true that over the years he has proven correct when I was on the verge of total exasperation with him.

Afterall, I'm in my sixties just like Jim and I have yet to win my first Major League game as the manager... Jim, on the other hand, has won a few along the way.

Homers. It was obvious to me that these umps were going to be strictly homers early by which team's pitcher got the outside corner called. They botched that "strike three" call and grew a pair of rabbit ears.

Detroit is heading in the right direction with Berry (Again, and as I've said with Inge, Boesch in 2 hole, and Raburn playing every game, I love Don Kelly but ding-dong sets him up for failure in that lead-off spot [something Kelly's never done, nor never had a game for] - why?)

Having Dirks, Jackson, and Berry in the outfield finally gives the Tigers a legit outfield in their BIG ballpark and keep in mind all three are lead-off guys who all at one time were centerfielders. Put Boesch at DH, use Delmon Young and Ryan Raburn as trade bait for a 2nd baseman and we are in business but even so Danny Worth can fill in.

This team needs a bench clearing brawl. Miggy homers, Prince gets hit, JV hits their lead-off the next inning hitter and he charges JV, would be a good team building event.

The team needed Fister to not go back on the DL.

irish buffalo... dirks is not a lead off hitter. Putting Kelly in lead off spot for a week or so is what most mangers would have done at that time. You don't move 5-8 guys in the lineup to make up for one guy. You try to keep everyone comfortable with their game plan, and mostly in the same spots in the order, and in the field.
Berry will be sent back down when Jackson returns. The Tigers will get hot at sometime in the season. I'm not worried, yet.
But the ChiSox are worth paying attention to. Tribe will fade.

I agree that they do need a "brawl".

Your post leads me to believe you are an amatuer baseball fan at best.

Do your homework.

Andy Dirks was a lead-off guy all the way up through the minors.

I did not say move 5-8 guys, never did. Rather, instead of putting the 6'4 Kelly, who has NEVER been a lead-off guy, into the 1 hole I'd move Dirks up and perhaps bring back Boesch even though it is not idealistic to have lefties back-to-back.

By the way, how did the Kelly move work out?

Berry will be sent back down? Serious? Detroit has the 2nd to worst defense in MLB and Berry only helps better that position. Add the fact he has been hitting and it makes it way too tough to move him down. I've said all along that since Detroit plays in such a big park they need more speed in the OF and having essentially 3 centerfielders (Dirks, Jackson, Berry) who have all hit the ball well this season is the ticket.

A brawl wont help Leyland's mismanagement nor will it save the DUMBrowski move to get Fielder when you already have the best 1b in baseball but I still wouldnt mind seeing one.

It was not Dombrowski's decision to get Fielder. How much do YOU follow the Tigers(I will not use the word amatuer here).

Don't care about what he did in the minors, you do not move one of your solid UNPROVEN pieces when he is having success. Batting leadoff is not the same as batting 2nd.

How's Boesch batting in the 2 hole working this year? It's not.

Please reread your post and look how many changes you have listed. At least 4, not including the batting order.

Dirks may have played CF in the minors, but he doesn't seem to me to be the guy I'd want out there for an extended time. At least in Comerica.

It's great how people call managers out, after the fact.

Tell me, in your lifetime, of a better mgr the Tigers have had, not named Sparky?

Last nights game was a comedy of errors (again). Dropped fly balls, not going to third on a ball hit behind the runner, giving up 5 stolen bases, etc. BUT, they won. Sometimes a game like this can kickstart a team. Porcello pitched a very good game.

Hoping the Yanks get VERLANDERED today.
