Anyone have any thoughts on the MAL?
Looks like a two team race between Seneca East and Hopewell with a slight edge to Hopewell due to the number of returning starters and the fact that most will be Seniors.
Will post thoughts on SE later.

Seneca East and Buckeye Central suspend in the middle of the eight inning with a 5 - 5 Tie. SE playing without 4 Seniors who were away on a class trip.
Seniors will be back tomorrow for an away game at Crestline.

That sounded like a great game.
Are Michalski and Miller playing for SE this year?

Michalski and Miller are not playing for SE this year. Not having Michalski is one reason I would pick SE second to Hopewell for the MAL. Michalski could have been a very special player but just couldn't take the academic side seriously.
SE beats Crestline 6 - 5. Jordan Bowerman gets the win in relief and pitched well. Elliott Lee had three singles and Dalton Wise had two hits (Double, single).

Assuming Rick is his father, I hope Jordan's dad was there to see him play. Good for him.

Hopewell is loaded and may go unbeaten through MAL....entire lineup is seniors and they can mash...they also have deep pitching staff and look to get back to regionals....may be one of the better MAL teams in past several years....who was the last MAL baseball team to go to state....NR did about 10-12 years ago I think.

Hopewell

Mohawk
Lakota
Tiffin Calvert
Hopewell is loaded, but I am not sure they have the pitching to make state. But I will bet they make Regional and anything can happen from there. No doubt they should be able to hit.

No Doubt Hopewell is loaded and has good hitters. Edge to Hopewell. Seneca East plays at Hopewell in the second to last MAL game on May 7th. Wouldn't surprise me if both teams are undefeated in the league when they match up.
SE has six returning starters from a team that beat Hopewell last year. Diehm (Sr), Bowerman (Jr) and Soph lefthander Mason McWilliams are all legitimate Number 2 level pitchers while Soph Ethan Caudill (HS QB) and Dalton Wise (Jr) provide servicable pitching for non league games. Top six of the order are all returning starters. There are only four seniors who start on this team but it is deep with very good arms in the outfield and most of the infield.
Should be interesting. Agree that Hopewell should make the Regionals but SE may as well since it is coming out of a different sectional/district.

SE defeats a good Willard team 5 - 4 in 8 innings. Down 4 - 1 in the seventh SE plates 3 with two outs to tie the game and scores the winning run in the 8th. Kyle Fluharty for Willard was dominant for 6 innings. Diehm shook off a rough first inning to pitch 7 innings striking out 11 or 12. Soph Left hander Mason McWilliams gets the win after striking out the side in the top of the 8th.
SE is 3 - 0 with a double header against Colonel Crawford on Sat.

Saturday:
Game 1:
SE 12
Colonel Crawford 2
Game 2:
SE 10
Colonel Crawford 0
Both games finish in 5 innings. Sophomores Mason McWilliams (game 1) and Ethan Caudill (game 2) pitch complete games. Seneca East is beginning to hit throughout the entire lineup.

Calvert 5
SE 2
SE commits 10 errors. Four by the pitcher who could not throw to 1st base. Plenty of blame to go around on the SE side. Give all the credit to Calvert. They were swinging the bats and put the ball in play. They also made all the plays necessary in the field.
Could be a one team race now for the league title.

Cook....what happened to SE bats (and gloves) against Calvert? Man, 10 errors. I did not think Calvert had a pitcher who could hold SE to 2 runs. HL only beat NR 2-0 as well. Anything can happen in high school baseball I guess.

Stryker -
You are correct that anything can happen in High School Baseball. Still shaking my head over the 10 errors. 4 of the errors go to the pitcher who was 1st team all league last year. SE hit the ball, but most hits were right at the Calvert players who, to their credit, then made the plays. Will be interesting to see how the league plays out.
Was also surprised by the low Hopewell score as well. Just goes to show you how the games can be different when you are facing the other teams best pitcher for a league game.

SE 9
Old Fort 5
SE pulls away in the 5th scoring 4 to take the lead and finish with a win. SE did not play particularly well. Pitching was erratic and still 4 or 5 errors to allow Old Fort to remain competitive. The team started the season well but is not firing on all cylinders right now. Hopefully the team can get back on track with the double header with Wynford this weekend.
SE now 6 - 1 (1 -1 MAL)

Upper Sandusky 6
Jordan Bowerman helped himself at the plate with a Homerun and a triple. Bowerman also pitched but gave up several hits. I am surprised that SE's pitching is not as dominant as I thought it would be. Maybe the wind today had something to do with it.
Was not at the games this weekend due to Easter family commitments but understand the team doubled up Wynford pretty easily.
SE is now 9 - 1 (1-1 MAL)

Cooke, SE loses again in MAL this time to NB.....not as bad as it may look as when Watson is on the mound NB is not a bad team...HL keeps rolling as they pile up the homers, new bats are no issue for them as they have 10+ homers as team I think. Not sure anyone in the league comes as close to HL as NR did last week in a 2-0 game in cold conditions.

Stryker -
Didn't make that game with NB. Heard the Pitcher had a nice curve ball and that errors were the major cause of the loss. Also I am hearing that our pitching isn't where it needs to be. If Pitching doesn't improve, SE will struggle against the better teams.
