Question Is Fairmont's Trent Arena Large Enough (4,000 seats) for a D-2 Regional? - 03-12-2012, 11:21 AM

I have to question if Fairmont's Trent Arena is going to be large enough to host a D-2 Boys' Regional State Tournament with Dayton Dunbar, Cincinnati Taft, Dayton Thurgood Marshall, and Columbus Eastmoor participating. The reason being that back at the Sectional level, Franklin and Dayton Chaminade-Julienne drew 4,500 fans to the 4,000 seat site! Fans were still standing in line to buy tickets past 7:00 P.M. when the game itself started at 6:30 !!! Just wondering!

Thats not enough for a D3 sectional. Letalone a D2 regional

Anyone can support a team that is winning - it takes no courage. But to stand behind a team to defend a team when it is down and really needs you, that takes a lot of courage.

If I read the bracket correct, game times are 5:30 PM and 8:00 PM. Sounds like spliit sessions. And most likely it will be big enough for 1 game.

Go Troy!

In general, probably not. Some schools do, but my guess is that these teams will not bring a ton of people.

However, I would suspect that there could be a lot of neutral observers interested in seeing these teams play, particularly if Taft and Dunbar play on Saturday. Those two teams have to be the class of DII.

Somebody suggested that the teams at this regional might be better than the four DII teams who reach Columbus, and that's very possible.

Taft, Thurgood Marshall and Eastmoor probably won't have more than a couple hundred fans each.

I'm just listening to the JJ radio broadcast is all.

Announcers are speculating that Thurgood Marshall might be struggling because they were looking past Taft to a showdown with Dunbar on Saturday.

Looking past Taft??? Good one! Thurgood is struggling because Taft is really freaking good.

Announcers have pretty much retracted that and gotten back to an actual game analysis. Apparently both teams have committed a lot of fouls, not sure if it's being called tightly or if it's just been really physical. Thurgood has apparently been really trying to push the tempo but have been pretty sloppy about it.

No comments about a lack of room for the crowd though.

Thurgood trying to make a run but time is running out, Taft is up 10 with about three minutes left.

Taft now up by only six, and Washington has just fouled out with 2:10 left.
