When you've lived it not really a surprise, but there are to many rumors to say with any certainty.

Nalbany6 - No Class
Anyone who coaches basketball, knows that your school just lost a quality person and coach

I agree with coachrgh No Class.
Coach P. does everything possible for his players from supporting them to helping them get college scholarships. Better watch out what you wish for Nalbany6!!

OK All I was saying was that when you have been around the program and seen the pressure he's been under that it wasn't really a surprise. Sorry if I offended anybody, truly not my intent, only meant to share information and answer a direct question with the little information I had. Y'all are reading way too much into my post, not wishing for anything.

Was this coach P's decision or was he forced out. I cannot believe that they would force him out with all of the success the program has had recently.

rch115 - probably depends on which administrator and/or parents he upset. That's usually what happens when successful coaches go.

The topic of why a coach is dismissed, fired, forced to resign is a tough one to discuss. You may have opinions but until the administration puts out a statement for reasons of the dismissal, nobody has a say whether the coach was deserving of being retained or let go.

My question to you posters: What are valid reasons for letting a coach go?

Obviously there must have been some form of misconduct. NA's administrators are the only ones who have to answer that question.

BannanaSlug
which most administrators won't say (truthfully), as it might hurt their chances of having quality people apply. This game hasn't changed, sadly.
They'll say that coaches are on "one year contracts" and all are non-renewed unless they rehire them

According to the article in thisweek, Coach Puryear made the decision to step down on his own. He is a good coach who gets the most out of his players, to say that there was any type of misconduct is not fair. He could have simply needed a break!

Hoopcrazy,

That is what the article may have said, but what is going around on the street and hallways is that he was forced to resign. So far the administration has kept to themselves. It is unclear at this time of the true reasons for either his dismissal or voluntary resignation. No matter what the circumstances are, the administration needs to address the girls so that they can move forward in a positive direction. High school sports is not about the coaches but for the student athletes.
