Default Claymont Hires Eric Henry as head coach. - 02-14-2012, 12:58 AM

Interesting hire by the Mustangs, Coach Henry was the defensive coordinator under his father, Ed Henry, and many thought would be the successor to his father after Senior Henry resigned two years ago, but Claymont with Badre Bardawil instead. Word is he'll be keeping most of the coaching staff in place and running a similar offense. He inherits an 8-2 team from last year with 18 returning starters. Henry was also interim head coach when his father had health problems back in the 2007 season.

Thoughts on the hire? Good or bad hire by the school? IMO, you'll see a huge improvement defensively from the Mustangs as that's Henry's bread and butter, obviously with Merrick gone you'll see a more balanced offense, but this is still 9/11 starters on a team that averaged nearly 40 points per game, and returns a great offensive line and a great core of receivers. I expect a spread offense with maybe more of a running athlete at QB, maybe with power eye wrinkles in it, and an aggressive 5-2 defense

His father Ed is an assistant at Dover. Will he be joining his son back in Claymont?

Good question, I'm not sure to be frank.

Its a great hire, he has wanted the job for awhile and is a Claymont (or as others call us 922er) person to the core. Coach B did one great thing by getting the job on the last hire, he showed the blueprint to an offense that should be run at Claymont. We do not have the big boys to run a power I and should have learned from Dover years ago that the spread is sucessfull at the highschool level. Henry was hurt buy not being hired last time but had time to reflect and saw what Coach B has done and is ready to keep it going.

Henry has all his coaching staff back to help run the spread and will improve a non-agressive defense. He has a lot of great players back. I heard he is moving one of his receivers to QB. The kid started as JV qb as a freshman and did not play basketball this year even though he started as a sophmore. May be rumers but heard he was working on qb skills all winter and we know he can run the ball well. No facts to back it up but it makes sense. Does anyone know or heard anything?

I've also heard that, and it would be a decent fit, he also ran for like 500 yards last year so yeah he can run. This offense isn't overly complex, and the throws aren't all that difficult. You just need to put the balls in the right place. Imo, he'll be fine if he does start.

Good luck to Claymont. Hopefully you guys can make the playoffs this season. Going 8-2 gives you a good chance, but your going to have to beat Dover, Phila or Coshocton if you play those 3 teams. Schedule is weak so you have to beat a team like Dover or Coshocton to make the playoffs.

Go Dover!

^^^^what he said.8-2 is about as good as it gets.I won't comment on the coach.Lets face it,there's light years between the good and the bad in the ECOL.It's gonna take a while to get to the good status. The interest and commitment to an elite football program just doesn't exist in the Twin Cities.
