Default Mt Gilead boys bb for real? - 02-07-2012, 08:21 AM

I read with interest that Mount Gilead boys basketball has won a divisional championship for the first time since the MOAC was formed in the 1990's. Is this team for real or is the MOAC down this year? Currently they are 15-2 with losses to Fredericktown & River Valley.

I would say they are for real. They are hard working, scrappy, and have decent skills. I think it is safe to say that the league is down this year but it has been for a couple of years in my opinion. But that is not meant to discredit this Indian team...they are good.

I would add that in their two losses they were without one starter due to injury and another starter was injured in the R Valley loss. One issue with this team is a lack of depth but they are good. OSU is right in that the league is still in the middle of a down period. MG can prove how good they are in tournament and I hope they do. Good luck to the Indians and all the MOAC schools in the upcoming tourney.

You're asking that question in February?

They're real.

The injury comments answered by question. Good luck to the MOAC teams in tournament play. Go Indians.

Nice work on Coppers part. It is nice to see Mt. Gilead give a coach a chance to put a program in place. Was it 83 the last time they won a confrence championship?

They are good but the MOAC is definitely in a down year. I don't think we will know for sure until we see their tourney draw and they have to start playing the Columbus Academys and Bloom Carrolls of the world because the other D III leagues in Central Ohio are stronger than the MOAC this year.

I believe MG has a nice squad regardless of the conditon of the league. Good size and excellent effort. In my uneducated and constructive opinion, the bench could do a little less subbing, especially when those on the floor are in a groove. That said, Tommy's energy and passion for the sport, the kids and his alma mater are a big part of this team's success.

For what it's worth, MG did win a District title in 1996.... the most successful bball year in the MOAC to date. Best of luck to all of the schools in the tourney.

P.S. I'm not sure what "for real" means but in my 50 plus years of paying attention to this stuff, it's hard for me to think any team winning 90% of their games as not being successful.... maybe even "for real".

Went to Cardington to see my grandson play. Mt. Gilead had their way with Cardington. The Indians moved the ball really well and took advantage of a number of "lazy" passes by the Pirates and turned them into easy layups. I would like to see a little more meat on their two big boys. They may well get worn down by a physical team. All in all, the Indians are "for real".

I had seem them play quite a bit this year. Tonight without Snyder and Carver and Vanderkooi their younger players weren't quite ready to step up. Ready and with their tough league was too much for them. Sorry the injury bug caught them at the wrong time. A nice run through season though--always said it takes more then x's and o's in this game --luck is involved also.

MG goes 18-3 with all 3 losses coming wīth starters out due to injury. Having 3 of your top 7 out For the tournament including first team all district pick Kolby Snyder crushes there chances. Great season though for the indians!

We'll never know how MG might have fared if at full strength. So is life.

I hadn't thought about the injuries Jack.... great point. Nice season Indians. There is a lot of young talent on this team. Use this as a building block to expectations.

Congrats again MG

Wow...didnt realize Mt Gilead suffered some many injuries........I saw them play a couple times and thought they had a very nice well balanced team. Were these basketball injuries?

They had a great year and a real nice team. Too bad that they were really hurt by injuries at the end of the year. I think Snyder is one of the best players I saw all year...
