Default Naismith's D-IV NW Ohio Rankings: Jan. 29. - 01-29-2012, 10:22 AM

Week #4 NW Ohio Boys Baskerball D-IV Rankings:

1. Fort Recovery (13-1):Only loss is to an unbeaten D-I team from Columbus. Expecting a 19-1 regular season and a long tournament run.

2. Edgerton (13-0): Don't really see a Bulldog loss the rest of the season. That's special no matter the schedule.

3. Arlington (13-2): Red Devils are very solid with big games against Vanlue (this Friday) and Leipsic (Feb. 10) ahead.

4. Leipsic (12-1): Double OT win against Kalida Saturday night and the Vikings looking good -- at least three really tough opponents ahead.

5. Gibsonburg (11-1): Golden Bears may turn to silver Tuesday night if they lose to Maumee Valley Country Day. Game of the year in the TAAC.

6. Ada (12-2): Bulldogs are a quality team and can beat anyone on the list.

7. Columbus Grove (10-3): Still one of the top teams in NW Ohio and clearly capable of winning against anyone on this list.

8. Maumee Valley Country Day (11-1): Big games against Gibsonburg and Toledo Christian this week. If they win Hawks will fly higher.

9. Colonel Crawford (12-3): Finding a way to get back into the top 10 but only narrowly.

10. New Riegel (12-2): This team also barely makes the tlist with 7 or 8 teams close behind. Games with Col. Crawford and Tiffin Calvert ahead.

Honorable Mention: Vanlue (12-2); Pettisville (8-4); Stryker (10-4); Tiffin Calvert (12-2); Kalida (8-5); Toledo Christian (7-4); St. Henry (10-4); Delphos St. John (8-6).

Gibsonburg is a good example of one team that has improved greatly by going to another league. From the tough SLL to the less competitive TAAC has improved the athletic climate at Gibsonburg, and I want to congratulate them on proving that moving down a bit doesn't necessarily mean a drop off in competitiveness. They have a nice ball club this season.

Not sure they are quite with the teams ahead of them or a few behind them but yes, a very special season so far. Would love to see the MVCDS game this Tuesday -- should be a great small-town atmosphere.

Fort Recovery is probably 8-10 points better than just about everybody else in D-IV. Lots of good teams but the Fort is really strong.

Maybe in NW Ohio, but Berlin Hiland is without a doubt the best in D4, and one of the best teams in the state in all divisions.

being from a small northwest Ohio school this is the division i am most interested in. I personally am wondering how Edgerton will do when they play against tougher schools in the tourney.

Could be quite a machup in a sectional final at Paulding. Edgerton, Miller City, Kalida and Holgate are all there. Should be some real good matchups in the sectional finals. The two that make it out will probably meet in the district finals.

To be honest, i have only seen Edgerton and Holgate. I do not think Holgate is good enough to make it out this year but you never can count them out

When the final score's in the 20's or 30's, a couple of fluky shots can change the entire game. I don't know how they can consistently keep the score down like that.

Haha yea it is hard to believe that they can do that, but yea it is hard to count them out. I just think that their game plan can be ruined if a team jumps to an early lead. I don't know if they have the offensive firepower to catch up.

If the Blade is right tonight, wow did Maumee Valley whip Gibsonburg (75-53). Hawks may be a serious D-IV contender.

I wonder if this is Jim Robinson's time? He's been at it a very long time and he has had a lot of good, solid teams,,,but this MVCD team may be one of those teams that has destiny working for them. Congratulations to Coach Robinson and way to keep doing what you love and good luck the rest of the way...

I wont give credit to Robinson unless he's the one that got the 3 kids to transfer from other local schools after their freshman year.... They have a very good team but being a private school was a real advantage for them the last two years. I think they will make a serious run in the tourney having a very well balanced team. They are very solid at every position and can shoot lights out.

We have been witness to public school athletes transferring to private schools for years and by now, there really can't be anymore surprise with it here than anywhere else. We might as well base it on what the teams do on the floor and move past the transfer conflicts. Plus, I for one, have no immediate information that would suggest impropriety in this situation and so I simply comment regarding the abilities of Coach Robinson and his team on the floor, and that seems to be quite impressive. I'm not a MVCD fan anymore than I am for any other team but because I've been watching this man's coaching exploits for a very long time, I tend to support his efforts this season. We old goats (Sorry, Jim) have to stick together.

ndhater: How about if you provide a list of all of the transfers going to public schools in the Toledo area over the years?

One of the best in all divisions is a strong statement - the Hawks are having an excellant year - capitalized with that signature win @ ASVSM. But ASVSM lost 4 starters from last year - a ton of BBall to be played yet to !! I see more than 1 team in DIV that will challenge them in the tourney - Fort Recovery is certianly one of those teams !

I think we'll have to hold off on MVCD until after the season. Nothing against them, but looking at the schedule??? C'mon? About 80% of the schedule you can name the score. No doubt Robinson is a good coach and he obviously has some talent this year. But let's wait and see what happens when they get to districts. And we can really get off the transfer thing, kids can legally move from school to school every year, it's not illegal. Some kids would rather play alot at a D4 school than sit or get cut at a bigger school. Not saying it's right, but it happens.
