Bloom Carroll Football plain and simple needs structure. From what I have seen and heard about Mauro, this should happen. About 6 years ago I really thought BC had their football program going in the right direction under Jeff Pica. They were the first team in the MSL to install the no huddle spread. They had plenty of athletes, including many who played basketball for Petty during the winter. I believe one year they had nearly 75 students come out for football. They were .500 in 2005 or 2006 and students were excited and were starting to get the intensity needed to compete for high school football. The AD wasn't satisfied with Pica and he was let go. Ever since then, I believe 2007, BC has only had 40 to 50 kids come out for football, many of the students are focusing only on baseball or basketball for reasons such as not wanting to get hurt or not wanting to lose. I believe Mauro will get the intensity back, target all the athletes at BC and have a pretty good year. I really hope he stays because I believe BC needs a coach to be there for the long haul. They need structure and intensity to win. It might not happen over night, but with Mauro you never know.

Just to clarify, Pica was 9-31 in 4 years at the helm. Numbers have been at a minimum in the 50s or higher since then.

When Amanda puts out almost 100 kids and they are division 4/5.... 50 don't seem like a lot.

Amanda has been no where near 100 kids the last few years. And at no point did I insinuate that 50 was a lot. And they haven't been .500 for over 10 years now, not during Pica's tenure. Being the first team to have the spread offense is not a note worthy accomplishment is it?

I'll be the first one to admit...I have a general knowledge regarding the game of football, however I am definitely no expert. I have always been torn on what offense should be implemented at BC.

We have tried the spread: Offensively the spread wasn't the answer because we hardly ran out of it, thus dragging the game out and relying on our pitiful defense to get stops. We did actually see some nice numbers from Ryan Hughes for a couple years though.

We tried the power run: One would think that this is the answer to shorten the game. However, we have just never had the horses in the trenches to push teams off the ball.

Step in Coach Mauro: From what I remember of Mauro, he ran a spread offense that was run oriented. I'm guessing this inherits zone blocking schemes which greatly reduces the need for "big" linemen. I am really excited to see what we can do in this offense!

However, the real problem is on the defensive side of the football. Everyone can see that. Us fans at BC should be really excited about Mauro coming to town. He is not only a great football coach, but an even better motivator and icon for a community. I am really excited to see if he can get this ship turned around over the next few years!

I'm hearing McCurdy from FU is heading up there to "help".
As far as zone blocking if you don't have somewhat quick and technically sound lineman you aren't going to have much success.

Phil....ah I mean Cdubindians, I loved the fact that you announced this a couple of months before it came to fruition...Some of the BC folks that thought they were in the "know" apparently were not..Unless some really knew and simply wanted to make you look like a fool, anyways, it was classic.

I had the samething happen to me a while back, I had heard on here that a certain coach had accepted the head coach job at a local high school. I was in a small talk conversation with one of his buddies and he tried to convince me that there was no way he was getting the job, well guess what happened a couple of months later, the same guy took the position...Now when I see him I always tease him about giving him "inside" information I get from the huddle....
