Default Interesting Paul Ryan Quote - 12-08-2011, 10:34 AM

I was on my way home from work and listening to talk radio at the top of the hour. (I was listening to Mike Trivisono) Fox news was doing the hourly update. The subject was the payroll tax cuts that obama wants to continue. Paul Ryan would only support the tax cuts if a way could be found to pay for the tax cut.

That brought up a few thoughts to me. 1) I thought tax cuts meant an increase in revenue thus there should be no need to figure out a way to pay for it. 2) is it only tax cuts to wealthy americans that pay for themeselves with increased revenue? 3) The republican party has stated on several occasions that they will not raise taxes on anyone (unless they are middle class americans?). 4) are they simply getting in the way of anything obama wants to do?

I am certainly no Obama fan, cap and trade, obama care, his desire to fundamentally change america (thank you media for not figuring out what that meant:rolleyes:) are all things I wish would go away. But the republican party is making me seriously take a look at what they are trying to accomplish.

Thoughts?

I must confess I don't know where Ryan was going with this. It now seems like it was some kind of political posturing. I did hear Sen. McConnell say that there's no way they (the Senate GOP) would allow the payroll tax cuts to expire. But since the administration wants it to be renewed (just as puzzling to me), it gives his opponents leverage to get the Keystone XL pipeline back on the table as a bargaining chip along with renewing the tax cuts. We'll soon see!

p.s. Triv hates Notre Dame-don't listen to him!!

Call it what you will,it's the superbowl of political football.Weekly payroll taxes are not only government's welfare check but its greatest bargaining chip.We stipulate what recipients of government money can do with their benefits, but governments spending is not policed properly. When benefits to citizens are scrutinized but a certain party then rescinds on an agreement to cut defense spending.......something is amiss. There's a reason we have a do-nothing Congress-they've run out of things to police [ except themselves ]
