Default Wheeling Central at Steubenville Central - 09-21-2011, 10:03 PM

The Maroon Knights are rolling and the Crusaders have been inconsistent. I have seen the Knights once this year and they were impressive. They don't make mistakes and the spin series gives everyone fits. The Crusaders on the other hand have made too many mistakes and can't seem to put a whole four quarters together in one game. Against Toronto they spread the ball around a little better but too many costly errors that they couldn't recover from cost them the game.

Wheeling Central has soundly beaten both Madonna and Bellaire, teams that in a sense had their way with us. I would like to be optimistic but on paper Wheeling C. names the score. Their offense is exciting to watch. I've often wished we could install a mix of the wing-t with the spread but realize it all starts with a strong line thats executes well.

Sorry for the pessimism, but this could get ugly for us.

In the 2nd half the younger players did pretty well as collective units and showed us some glimpses of nice skill talent. Going into this season we all knew it was a big transition year. New tempo, plays, mindsets, etc. I think the problem for many fans is, we got a little spoiled after week 1 and thought they were going to flip a switch and have this knockout year. They're still learning a brand new way of working, preparing, practicing, and executing.

IMO the thing they all need to learn is not to be afraid to make a mistake. In previous years mistakes meant getting demeaned and humiliated. Now it means being talked to about what you did and how not to do it again. That's a needed change but it takes more than a few months to not subconsciously flinch every time a coach approaches you.

I think they are trying to do everything they need to do to fix it, they mixed things up a little.I hope they do not give up on the run. Next week would be a good game to give it a try

We know, you hope they don't give up on the run. They need to give the ball to your son to run. Is that correct? That has been your analysis week after week, "I hope they don't give up on the run."

How is everything brand new? How many of these coaches this year were coaches last year? So many people blamed Bahen for this last year and it seems he is still being blamed this year for the losses. He is the least of CCHS's worries right now.

I am not related to anyone on this team, believe it or not. Maybe that is why I can be more objective than most of you. But the passing game is not working (putting up great stats but not the important one, the W). They need to get the running game going to make the passing game work. The present coach even said the same thing about the running game. Or you can make your whole schedule with teams like Tusky Central and Conotton Valley, then pat yourself on the back and say how great the passing game is working.

I think they could pass and/or run if they could block. But they are not blocking too well and therefore the runs get stuffed and the passes are mostly comebacks off of scrambles or really short routes. The youth of this team is the line on both sides of the ball and that is where they are really struggling.

We wore the 71 logo last week and they were on the helmets that were hanging up last night in the lockerroom.

With the weather forecast it might be a good idea to give the running game a chance Saturday afternoon.
