Default Lancaster - Logan Week 1 - 08-09-2011, 09:27 AM

Is there anybody out there ? What happened to all the Lancaster and Logan Huddlers ? This game used to start getting hashed out around the middle of April. The Golden Gales put it on Logan pretty good last year and I believe if Lancaster plays to their potential they should start the season with a victory.

Lancaster is very beat up right now. TE is already done for the year and will be going into the scrimmage today without FOUR running backs. Few other important players had major injury scares as well. Lots of sophmores getting reps with #1's today in the 4 way I bet.

The Gales need to get healthy before they worry bout beating Logan or anyone else.

Wow. You sure threw a wet blanket over my enthusiasm. Why so many injuries this early in practice ?

After watching yesterdays scriommage against Olentangy, Kenton and Marion-Franklin, I would like to take back my earlier comments.. Wow I had no idea the young backs were so fast. Did not expect to see them outrunning the Marion-Frnaklin defense over and over again. Going to be tough for the seniors to get back their positions.

The defense destroyed Olentangy. Held them to negative yards in the 1's on 1's part.

Gales over Logan by at least 4 TD's

Guru: Sounds like you're ready to book a hotel room in Stark County for the first week in December.

How'd Marion Franklin look? They lost most of their top 'skill' guys from last year, but their QB returned and he was a handful. The defense reportedly has some studs. I'm curious because the Irish play them week 2.

WB, was told they didn't look bad but not like the MF teams of the last few years. Rebuilding is an accurate description.

D: Thanks. That is sort of what I expected (and was hoping to hear), but was looking for affirmation.

They were just soooooo freakin' fast last year, it was scary. They beat Scioto 20-6, but it might as well hae been 47-6. They had mulitple scores and long gainers called back due to stupid penalties. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for similar sloppiness week 2.

Just looked at your schedule and if I had to pick a team, I would say West South is your toughest opponent. Of course that may all change as the season goes along. Just trying to have some fun with this before the season starts and we all get serious

Getting back to the thread- I also heard Lancaster looked good at the scrimmage. That's impressive if they were playing with underclassmen.

Lancaster played with mostly juniors and seniors, they did have to put in the freshman quarterback for awhile because Theiss needed a break, wasn't feeling well. They also moved a sophmore lineman over for the end of the second and gave him some reps in the third scrimmage. No other players I saw were underclassmen. It was a little hard because Logan was there scouting and they switched some jerseys but for the most part it was still juniors and seniors in the varsity scrimmages as far as I could tell. Guru, what sophomores did you see in the backfield? Maybe I missed them...

As far as how they did against Kenton, not great in the first defensive set. Offensively they were fine, defensively they struggled the first time but it appeared the defense wore them down as the scrimmage went on. I didn't keep score but bet it was close. They were substituting in different players and different looks.

*P.S. Forgot to mention, Roberts is going to do well on the offensive side, treats running like he does tackling.

Sometimes you open your mouth without knowing better, this one of of those cases for me. Guru, I apologize for even considering posting a question of your knowledge.

I was just corrected by a son who is on the team - sophomores did in fact play in the backfield

No problem. What i meant by "young guys" is the kids that were expected to be JV players this year. JR's Bond, Shisler and England played nearly every rep on offense with Roberts here and there. Also, 2 sophmores played a little wing. I describe thm like this becasue most people felt that the bulk of running back would be played by Meadows, King, West and Jones. None of them played in this scrimmage due to injury/suspension.

3 sophmore lineman played the last TD drive against MF on offense. They looked BIG and pretty solid.

FYI, I'm not saying Lancaster is going to the state title game, just that they should have no problem at all with Logan. Weeks 2-4 will be the test.

That's right - mug, crist and trout on the line. I think the line will be solid for a few years. Regardless, I agree the backs looked fast. It looked like the first time Roberts ran that I saw he was straight up but after that looked pretty good, agree? How does the team look in relation to previous years at this point?

For what it is worth I posted my breakdown of all three parts of the scrimmage on the thread about central Ohio scrimmages.

To be correct Olentangy had 30 yards in the first series with a sack that was a negative 10 yard play. Minus yardage is a little extreme don't you think? Your defense is very good though. I would expect a very good year with such a solid Defense.

I dont know what you were watching but Olentangy didnt have 30 yards against Lancaster on their 1st possession. Agreed it wasnt negative yards but it was alot closer to negative yards than 30 yards. The exact amount was Olentangy took over on the 35 yard line and ran 20 plays and the ball was squarely on the 37. I hated Math in college but I think that comes out to two yards.

I guess I have to explain the math of the refs taking the ball back to the 35 after they felt it would have been 4 downs without a 1st. And the math of a false start penalty taking the LOS back but not taking away from yards gained. Olentangy's last 3 plays gained 19 yds.

So I don't know what you were watching but it wasn't 20 plays that only gained 2 yds from the 35 !

Obviously not worth arguing because Lancaster's D played very well and Olentangy did not in that 10 MINUTE PERIOD. Good thing that 10 MINUTES doesn't determine who goes to the playoffs.

yourmove: How did Oly use Perry? Backfield, wideout, both?

He looked awesome against Scioto last year at HB. I was glad they only gave him the ball 5 times or so.

Aside from Lancaster's D looking strong. Is there any diagnosis you can offer as to Oly's struggles internally? With Playko and some other good sized linemen coming back along with some experienced backs, I expect the Braves' O to be solid this year.

Also, how did they do against MF and Kenton?

I am not going to argue obviously we disagree and that is fine. The refs did not move the ball back after 4 plays a single time I dont know who told you that because you obviously wasnt there because I swear they did not do that. Agreed there were penalties that moved the ball back but the bottom line was the ball finished at the 37 after starting at the 20. They did gain some yards on the second possesion but were talking about the first time they had the ball. Trust me the way the Olentangy coach was ripping his team as we walked to the other field he didnt feel to good about the whole thing either. If the refs were moving the ball back after 4 plays why didnt that ever happen when Lancaster had the ball ? Guess that would mean Olentangy never stopped Lancaster even one time. Definitly not worth arguing about, I agree that those couple of minutes wont determine playoffs or anything for that matter.
