Default Fargo 2011 the Biggest HS Wrestling show on Earth - 07-11-2011, 02:09 PM

Well Fargo is upon us again. This is our families 7th Fargo. The Highs are really high and the lows can be very low! Some State champs will go 2 and out, some 2 and 3 timers won't make it past round 4! 80 to 100 plus man brackets and little to no easy matches! No plus "five" weight classes! No Team Brackets! You will face and wrestle the best if you can last. Most top 10 D-1 coaches and Olympic Training Center coaches will all be there. No distractions , No Micky Mouse, No Back up play plan....Win or you are done with nothing to do.
Good luck Ohio wrestlers. To the Greco and Freestyle doublers , be ready for the grind! If you you win a lot in both styles I pray you get thru with out to much damage...It's going to be brutal! Enjoy the pain and challenge of a wrestling marathon! Win or Lose you can say you went thru a Fargo tournament and put it all on the line!

Great tournament and it used to be so much better before they split into two divisions.

People always whine about age issues...This ends that. I think the split made it better! Kids that didn't stand a chance in the Junior division 15 years and below now can compete and win a national title as a cadet against kids their age. You now still have 80 to 100 plus brackets in the junior division and they are all studs and all older including senior graduates...No excuses. Ohio is one of the only States that is slipping at Fargo. Fargo is tougher than ever Nationally. Disney is stronger than ever only with Ohio. Hence Ohio is no longer a folkstyle or freestyle powerhouse except two school wrestling factories, Eds and Grahm. Its interesting the states focusing more on Fargo and Greco/freestyle are now becoming better than Ohio also in Folkstyle including the number of Div. 1 College AA.

People will always whine about something. The split didn't make it better it watered it down. The good kids did stand a chance 15-20 yrs ago. I remember seeing a few true freshmen compete strongly in the Jr division.

What are you talking about "watered it down?" Young wrestlers that earn AA status against kids their own age at the Cadet level will almost certainly be wrestlers that are on the podium the following year at their state tournaments. If they don't make it on the podium, you can bet that they will be knocking on the door.

That just improves the depth in wrestling.

Totally agree! Dividing the ages encouraged almost twice the kids to go to Fargo! The old way only served the very few young kids that could compete with 19 year old graduates. This fills a much more needed grass roots movement in the sport.

I think the big question actually is whether or not Falcon81 will get tossed out or not?

Thats funny but based on 30 years of coaching folkstyle wrestling and being Olympic certified and Bronze certified in Greco and freestyle for 15 years or a huge basketball fan of my girls I have been "Tossed" Once! 2 weeks ago at Disney Duals...LOL..

Seriously do you ever have and anything productive, positive or constructive to say or contribute?? It will be interesting how the haters will handle the great up coming season for Waynedale? Enjoy the crow, untill then stick to the thread about Fargo.

Thanks! Look me up some time at a tournament. Positive support is appreciated! Kids and families sacrifice a lot. We don't need the negative feedback. You never ever here these hecklers in real life at real events...They are to scared or embarrassed to have that bad of manners in real life...Only on the internet...LOL>

My son is up at St. Ed right now preparing for his first trip to Fargo. I wish I could be there to see it, but I'm rooting hard for the Ohio National Team!

I think the Ohio Junior team will exceed what it did last year. I am not as familiar with the Ohio cadet team. Terrible accident at practice yesterday. Zack broke a kids arm in several places, practice was ended immediately for the team. Prayers out to him and his family, Zack feels terrible , this is the second severe break he has been involved in and it really got to him.

I'm sorry falcon81. I didn't know you'd only been tossed once. Most people never get tossed. But most people follow the rules. But you....you're a Maverick and rules don't apply to you! I hear it was the hooded packet people behind the whole thing! I hope their tentacles don't reach as far as Fargo.

Just a freak accident. Again prayers out to the kid, I hate to see his summer end like that. On a side note once again Coach Urbus at St. Eds where the Fargo camp is being held is one of the biggest class acts in Ohio. When you get around Coach Urbas every year at these events you see how this guy works tirelessly to make sure things go smooth and shows a lot of interest even in the kids that don't wrestle for him.

Man I hate to say it but I think this is true!

Why aren't there more Ohio studs going to Fargo every year? (I'm not saying the guys going this year aren't studs.) In general, Ohio has been having fewer and fewer AAs at Fargo, whereas it used to have a bunch every year. Meanwhile it is clear that PA has established itself as the preeminent wrestling state, and Ohio has slipped ... why?

Are kids deciding to go to other (perhaps lesser) "national" tournaments? Are guys deciding not to go because they think not winning might hurt their chances at a scholarship? Is Disney more fun? Is freestyle falling off the radar because it's less like folkstyle that it used to be? Thoughts?

Best of luck to the guys with the heart to make the trip and represent the state!!

Its Ohio that is becoming a Folkstyle only State. The surrounding states are pushing Greco/Freestyle like Ohio use to. Those states are now surpassing Ohio in Folkstyle too. Freestyle and Greco simply make you a better well rounded wrestler and makes you a better folkstyle wrestler. An interesting Fact every NCAA Champ was a Fargo wrestler for the last 5 years. Thats a overwhelming fact! Folkstyle only thinking only helps those making money on camps and a only "HS Career" kind of results. It also eliminates the Fun Factor and breaking up the seasons. International opportunities are totally eliminated and your career is over after college. Fargo is strong , its Ohio that is slipping and trust me it has slipped.

Disney,Disney,Disney! That's what is hurting Ohio. When people need to make a choice for one or the other because they are both insanely expensive, they choose the easier and more "fun" one that their h.s. coaches push. Too many coaches don't encourage free/greco because they don't understand it and Disney allows them to keep control over their kids in the offseason.

How can more wrestling hurt Ohio? Disney isn't easier and in fact its harder for most kids. Most coaches don't push Fargo that hard because the cost and time associated with it don't benifit the wrestlers enough. All things considered unless your a top level wrestler already Fargo is really a waste of time.
