Default Marion Franklin Red Devils - 12-18-2010, 09:39 AM

What is going on with the Marion Franklin Red Devils so far this season. Two unexpected early season losses to Independence and Eastmoor Academy. Could someone tell me?

Some or most of those guys played football i think? No excuse for them, but maybe it will just take them a while. earlier this summer there were folks talking about them winning the district. they have always had supreme talent in my opinion.

I have heard that they have Macon playing the 3 guard, which doesn't make sense me to and have Spears who is playing the 4 guard. After those two you have McCoy who got hurt in the last football game of the season. I know he is back but heard he isn't at full strength yet. I know they lost alot from last year when Youngblood and McGaughy graduated. I believe they need to gel, after watching them early and then playing them late last year it has always taken time to gel. Will they win the south? No...with two losses already and having to play Walnut Ridge twice they will be best to finish 3rd. Will they do well in the tournament, Yes. But I dont know about winning the district, after watching them play Dublin Coffman at the fairgrounds last year it seems like when they meet a more disciplined team they lose their swagger. They are a great team and have the right people but maybe the right people aren't in the right places. I hope for the city league that they do well because we need to restore that in the central district and gain the respect back.

Is it true for the most part that coaches in the City league can not be fired for performance or win lost record? Whatever has been going on at Marion Franklin and East over the yrs is a shame!

Thats not true, but the job will go to a district employee over a outsider everytime.

Is someone supposed to be in trouble at marion franklin? They have played in a couple of city league championships lately i think, and didn't they beat westerville north or south in the tournament last year to get to the dublin game? i am not an insider but from the outside i would think they have been successful the last 7 years or so. Cant confirm it though.

In the last 7yrs MF has had more talent then Eastmoor and every team in south division, I would think Eastmoor has a much more successful program. Let's look at East now, they have also had plenty talent in the last 10 to 15yrs. I don't get it.

You know what the problem is at Marion Franklin. The coach is cousins with the Athletic Director. They have a great AD there but it doesn't make sense. The City schools is trying to get the rule of Nepotism passed meaning that no relatives in the work place. This may really shake up what programs are trying to do. I know of a couple football programs that would lose good coaches and also either Coach McCoy at MFHS or Scott Williams would have to step down. It's really a stupid rule but they are trying to cut down on the shady stuff going on in the schools.

Sounds like a coaching problem to me! MF and East has had a boat load of talent in their gyms for years and nothing really to show for it. As for Eastmoor, they probably have the top coach in the city.

I agree. He is a very good coach at eastmoor. They need to hold coaches more accountable. Its like if ur a teacher in the district u can become a coach and wether or not your good or bad, if your a teacher your locked in for years.

The problem is the union rule giving priority to teachers for coaching positions. If the "bad" coach that is a teacher and a outsider that maybe is a very good coach both apply then under rule it must go to the teacher, no exceptions.

They need to tweak that rule or something. I really bleve it sets these kids back.

I'm not convinced its all coaching although in this case, it probably is at MF in the past 15-20 years...this year...I'm not sold on this team yet although they definitely have the best legit "big" in the City League right now...but I'm hearing that he's trying to play a "3"...someone must be kidding right??? 6'9" "three" who hasn't ventured out too far from the paint unless he's cheating on defense to get a dunk...LOL EM...

They won't win the City League North if this is all true...

I thought Marion Franklin's win over Westerville South last year at the fairgrounds was an impressive win over an undefeated team. They may have had more talent, but I doubt many people besides themselves thought they would beat Westerville South. As for Dublin Coffman I think they ran up agianst a team with comparable if not better talent who played better basketball together and they lost.

I came away impressed with Verlon Reed. He was everywhere when he was out on the floor on defense and on the boards. I imagine they are missing his defensive intensity this year.

Still this school has been extremely blessed to have the talent that its had for decades and there's really not a lot to show for it...sorry, no offense to any of the coaches there, but if I'm off base, someone will have to prove it to me...they still have some pretty decent talent there this year and for them to lose to the teams that they have this year...sorry, but I cannot accept it!!!!

MF has a few football players who have not yet gotten into basketball shape and gel with the team. It takes a little time to get your timing down and conditioning is a bit different for hoop. As far as Macon playing on the wing, I think he is trying to improve his stock as a college prospect by developing those wing skills.

He isn't a better wing player then Sullinger was, but you didn't see him trying to play the 3. I think you should dominate your position 1st

Let's address this in February. Let the teams gel first, it is December.

Winning takes hard work!
