Being new to Ohio, wondering how Ironman works. Does your team have to go or does individuals get to go? Say a kid who is really great from a small school that is average, can he go?

They go as a team.

No they enter as individuals, most teams aren't fielding there full squads do to travel and overall ability to compete. The Ironman tournament is IMHO the toughest high school tournament just below FARGO
